WARNING!
Risk of explosion if the battery is improperly replaced.
Is it necessary to wait for the battery pack to completely discharge before recharging them?
Batteries featuring alternative chemical compositions were susceptible to a memory effect (Battery memory), requiring a full discharge before recharge to prevent capacity reduction. The latest generation of NiMH batteries eliminates this memory effect, allowing for convenient recharging at any point in the usage cycle. In cases of uncertainty about the battery's charge level or condition, it is recommended to recharge it.
What happens if the battery pack remains unused for an extended period?
If the battery pack remains unused for a year or less, it can be recharged and resumed for regular use. In rare cases, prolonged inactivity may cause a chemical reaction leading to reduced usage time, which can be temporarily rectified by a couple of recharging and discharging cycles. If the battery pack is unused for over a year, it may face performance deterioration or over-discharge. To prevent this, it is advisable to recharge the battery pack every six months, ensuring sustained performance and a prolonged lifespan.
2300 mAh rechargeable batteries can be recharged up to 600 to 800* times in overnight slow charge mode. Capacity improvement or quick charging using third-party Quick chargers will always decrease the number of cycles.
*Battery cycle life is significantly affected by operating under extreme temperatures. Additionally, the life cycle is contingent on the battery manufacturer.
Why is my battery discharging without using the Battery pack?
NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries can experience self-discharge even when not in use, although at a slower rate compared to some other types of rechargeable batteries. This means that over time, they may lose charge on their own, and it is recommended to recharge them before use if they have been stored for an extended period.
Can I use a higher-rated mAh battery in my Bluesound PULSE FLEX battery pack (i.e. 2300mAh vs. 2500mAh)?
Yes, a higher mAh rating extends the duration between recharges, providing longer run times. It is worth noting that the elevated mAh rating does not impact PULSE FLEX in any way other than enabling extended usage periods.
Note:
- Never mix batteries from different manufacturers.
- Never mix batteries of different capacities.
Can I use Alkaline AA batteries instead of NiMH batteries?
Use only eight rechargeable AA NiMH 2300mAh batteries.
Avoid mixing batteries of different chemistries, such as NiCd, NiMH, Lithium, etc.
Note that alkaline batteries have a rated voltage of 1.5 volts, while NiMH batteries are rated at 1.2 volts. The significant distinction lies in the discharge behavior—alkaline batteries start at 1.5 volts and gradually drop below 1.0 volts, whereas NiMH batteries maintain approximately 1.2 volts for nearly 80% of their discharge cycle. Consequently, when alkaline batteries reach 50% capacity, they deliver a lower voltage than NiMH batteries.
Do NiMH batteries lose capacity over time?
Yes, NiMH batteries can experience a gradual loss of capacity over time, commonly referred to as capacity fade. This occurs through repeated charge and discharge cycles, and factors such as temperature and storage conditions can contribute to the overall aging of the battery.
