Bluesound recommends backing up BluOS Playlists to a USB flash drive periodically or before executing a factory reset to prevent unintended loss of playlists.
When a USB drive is connected, the Bluesound Player can function in two distinct modes:
USB Server Mode Enabled
Enhanced USB mode enables you to configure a connected USB drive for sharing among other BluOS Players within your home network. The USB's contents are indexed and integrated into the BluOS System as shareable media.
USB Server Mode Disabled
Traditional USB mode provides fundamental access and playback of media directly from the USB drive. The USB device is automatically displayed as a Local Source, visible exclusively on the Bluesound Player physically connected to the USB device.
Troubleshoot
To backup or restore BluOS Playlists to/from a USB, ensure that the USB Server Mode is disabled. Otherwise, selecting the Backup Playlist or Restore Playlist option will prompt a notification stating:
"Please enter a writable USB flashdrive."
To disable USB Server Mode, perform the following steps:
Android/iOS - Disable USB Server Mode
- Launch the BluOS Controller app.
- Remove the USB drive from the required Bluesound Player.
- Navigate to the Players tab and choose the required Player selected in Step 2.
- Navigate to the Home tab > Settings button > Music library.
- Toggle to disable - Enable Server Mode option.
- Tap the left-arrow button in the upper-left corner and select Diagnostics > Reboot > Yes to restart the Player.
- When the Player completes rebooting (the Status Indicator turns solid Blue), insert the USB drive.
- The Share USB drive.... - Player Notification pops up. Tap No.
- The USB device inserted - Player Notification pops up. Tap OK.
- Navigate to the Music tab ; tap USB under the Music Services section.
- Select the required track from the USB drive to start playback.
Now, the USB drive is configured on the Player without Server Mode and you can backup or restore BluOS Playlists to/from a USB.
Windows/iOS - Disable USB Server Mode
- Launch the BluOS Controller app.
- Remove the USB drive from the required Bluesound Player.
- Choose the Player selected in Step 2 from the Player Drawer.
- Under the left Navigation Drawer, select Settings > Music library.
- Toggle to disable - Enable Server Mode option.
- Under the left Navigation Drawer, select Help > Diagnostics > Reboot > Yes to restart the Player.
- When the Player completes rebooting (the Status Indicator turns solid Blue), insert the USB drive.
- The Share USB drive.... - Player Notification pops up. Click No.
- The USB device inserted - Player Notification pops up.
- Under the left Navigation Drawer, select USB.
- Select the required track from the USB drive to start playback.
Now, the USB drive is configured on the Player without Server Mode and you can backup or restore BluOS Playlists to/from a USB.
