Adding a Network Share
Bluesound Players pulls music from an existing digital Music Library across the network using Windows SMB File Sharing (SAMBA), provided network sharing is enabled. Refer to the following Help Centre articles to enable file sharing on your computer:
- Windows – File Sharing - Microsoft Windows
- Mac – File Sharing - macOS
The Bluesound Player should be directed to the Library. To do this, perform the following steps:
Android/iOS - Add Network share
- Launch the BluOS Controller app, navigate to the Players tab , and select any Player.
(Note: If you have a wired Player or VAULT, select that one over a wireless Player, as it will have a faster response time.) - Tap the Home tab > Settings button > Music library.
- Tap Network shares.
- Tap Add shares.
- Enter the share name in the following format:
\\Network Path name\Folder
Network Path name – is the Host Name, Computer Name, or IP Address of the NAS
Folder – is the folder or subfolder where the music is stored
Examples are:\\DISKSTATION\Music
\\MyNas\Public\Music
\\192.168.0.1\data
TIP: If you are using the IP address of your computer for the Network Path name, note that any changes to this IP address on your network will hamper the availability of the Share in the BluOS Controller app. A simple power failure on the router can cause this. Refer to the router documentation and create a DHCP Reservation for your computer or NAS drive on your router to ensure this IP address does not change even if the router restarts unexpectedly.
- Enter the User name and Password (if required) and select Add share.
When you receive the Share added message, the Player connects to the Share and begins Indexing. - Select the left arrow in the upper-left corner to navigate to previous screens.
You can monitor the Indexing progress from the Reindex music collection section.
(Note: The Player also indicates the Indexing via Status Indicator LED [solid White] or front panel messaging.) - You can find the recently added share files in the Music tab > Library.
(The Status Indicator LED turns solid Blue after completing Indexing, and the Library is replicated to all Bluesound Players in the network.)
Windows/macOS - Add Network share
- Launch the BluOS Controller app, select the Player Drawer, and select any Player.
(Note: If you have a wired Player or VAULT, select that one over a wireless Player, as it will have a faster response time.) - On the left Navigation Drawer, select Settings.
- Under MUSIC LIBRARY, select Network shares.
