Introduction
This bulletin describes how to configure a Synology DiskStation Network Area Storage (NAS) device for network discovery when searching for Networked Shares in Bluesound. These instructions assume you have already created network shares or are using the default shares (\\diskstation\music) on your Synology DiskStation and are designed to ease the setup process. If you have not set up a Synology DiskStation-network share with Bluesound yet, refer to our Help Center article.
Note: The default Network path for Synology DiskStation is:
\\diskstation\music
Scenario
The Synology DiskStation works well with Bluesound. The Synology DiskStation, however, does not always broadcast its shared folders unless you enable Guest access in the Synology Control Panel.
Configuration
In Windows or macOS, connect to your Synology DiskStation using the software provided to enable Guest access.
- Launch Synology Control panel
- Select File Services
- Select Win/Mac/NFS and verify that the Windows File Service is enabled
- Select User and verify that the guest account is enabled and in “Normal” status. It will be disabled by default
- Select Shared Folder
- Select the Folder you are looking to share and click Edit
- Under Permissions, ensure that Read Only or Read/Write access is selected for the user guest
- Press OK and close the Control Panel
Notes
- This implementation will work for all versions of BluOS regardless of smartphone or tablet used.
- The unit used for testing was Synology DSM 4.2 (DiskStation Manager) on a DS413j RAID Array but applies to all Synology products.
- If you are using the Synology in an LDAP environment, please also ensure in DSM 5.1, under Directory Services, LDAP, you have checked Enable Windows CIFS Support.
