Some of the most common causes for unexpected music collection loss are data corruption, hardware failure, accidental deletion of data, and such. Servicing or replacing your VAULT may also result in loss of data and Bluesound cannot always guarantee the safe return of your music collection after service.
To prevent losing your music collection inadvertently, we recommend performing a regular backup of your music library.
Backup can be performed using a storage drive via BluOS App or a computer.
BluOS App
This method is performed in the BluOS App using an external USB storage drive with a minimum storage capacity of 2TB connected to the VAULT.
Notes:
- This method formats the external USB storage drive and clears all its contents. This makes the storage drive compatible to back up VAULT’s music files that are in the EXT4 file system.
- EXT4 file system cannot be accessed from Windows or macOS.
Back up via BluOS
Perform the following steps to create a backup via BluOS App:
- Insert the USB storage drive into the VAULT’s rear panel.
- In the BluOS App, under the left navigation pane, select Settings.
- Under the MUSIC LIBRARY section, select Backup music library. A confirmation message requesting permission to format the USB storage drive is displayed.
- Select Next. After the USB storage drive is formatted, the backup commences.
Restore via BluOS
Perform the following steps to restore the backup to VAULT via BluOS App:
- Insert the USB storage drive that contains the backup into the VAULT’s rear panel.
- In the BluOS App, under the left navigation pane, select Settings.
- Under the MUSIC LIBRARY section, select Backup music library. If the VAULT identifies a backup, the following options appear: Backup or Restore.
- Select Restore. After restoration, the backup is restored to the VAULT. The music files existing in the VAULT’s internal music library that are not part of the restored backup are not deleted.
Note: You can view the progress of formatting, backup, or restoration in the BluOS App. You may continue to use the player while these processes are in progress in the background.
Computer
This method is performed by accessing the VAULT’s internal hard drive using a computer connected to the same network as the VAULT. This method is recommended as it does not require special formatting (EXT4) or a larger storage drive (2TB) for smaller audio backups.
Back up via Computer
- Insert a USB storage drive into the computer.
- Windows: Open File Explorer. Expand Network and double-click the VAULT’s drive.
