Why the Bluesound player is unable to index tracks from the Windows share, when it can connect to the share?

If you find that some or all tracks are missing after the Network Share configuration indexing, perform the following methods on your Windows computer to troubleshoot the issue:

Network Path – All tracks are missing

Ensure the folder-sharing settings are configured correctly by performing the following steps:

  1. On Windows, right-click the folder containing the tracks and select Properties. The Properties window is displayed.
  2. Select the Sharing tab and click Advanced Sharing.
  3. Select the Share this folder check box and click OK. The Network Path is displayed under the Sharing tab.
  4. In the Sharing tab, click Share under the Network Path. The Network access window is displayed.
  5. Select Everyone from the drop-down list and click Add.
  6. Set the Permission Level of Everyone to Read and click Share.
    Note: If you select any other group (excluding ‘Everyone’), you are required to enter a username and password when selecting the share in Bluesound.

Permissions – Some tracks are missing

Security permissions in Windows cascade down to all subfolders from the parent folder. However, in certain scenarios, some subfolders may contain incorrect security permission due to alterations.

To match the security permission of the subfolders with the parent folder, perform the following steps:

  1. On Windows, right-click the folder containing the tracks and select Properties. The Properties window is displayed.
  2. Select the Security tab and click Advanced.
  3. Select the Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object check box and click OK.
    The security permissions of subfolders are reset to match with the parent folder.
  4. Launch the BluOS Controller app on Windows; under the left Navigation Drawer, select Settings > Music library and select Reindex music collection.

Subdirectory shared with incorrect letter case

When you manually add a subfolder share from a music folder that is already shared on the network, ensure that the subfolder name in the network path matches the correct letter case.

For example, if you have a NAS Drive with the configured path as follows:

\\ComputerName\SharedFolder\SubFolder

But it was shared with Bluesound using lowercase letters as follows:

\\ComputerName\SharedFolder\subfolder

Certain NASs allow the share connection with the subfolder even when an incorrect letter case is entered but do not support indexing.
