Which Dolby audio formats does the new PULSE SOUNDBAR+ support?
- Dolby Atmos
- Dolby Digital
- Dolby Digital Plus
- Dolby TrueHD
- Dolby MAT
What is Dolby Atmos?
Dolby Atmos is an object-based audio format that differs from our traditional understanding of surround sound. In a traditional surround sound setup, the speaker itself is the locatable source of an acoustic event. Atmos (object-based) allows the listener to perceive sounds in locations around their listening environment that aren’t directly related to the source speaker. In other words, Atmos has the effect of making the Bluesound player disappear, leaving you immersed in the sound.
How do I know if Dolby Atmos is playing?
The Now Playing screen of the BluOS Controller App indicates receiving a Dolby Atmos signal or a regular Dolby Audio (channel-based) signal. Several factors determine if the PULSE SOUNDBAR+ receives a Dolby Atmos signal –
- The source material must be specifically Atmos-encoded,
- Your TV must be able to pass an Atmos signal along with a required Dolby audio format (Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby MAT) via the required HDMI ARC or eARC port.
Are there upward-firing speakers in the PULSE SOUNDBAR+ for Dolby Atmos playback?
No. The PULSE SOUNDBAR+ uses innovative height and surround virtualization techniques, developed by Dolby and implemented in BluOS, not requiring up-firing speakers.
What is the difference between the PULSE SOUNDBAR+ and PULSE SOUNDBAR 2i?
The PULSE SOUNDBAR+ features Bluesound’s –
- the newest, fastest processor platform
- HDMI eARC input
Both upgrades enhance the SOUNDBAR’s experience in several ways, but most importantly, they are required to support Dolby Atmos.
The PULSE SOUNDBAR+ also features a completely updated audio chain within our Dolby Atmos implementation, so it has different audio settings compared to the PULSE SOUNDBAR 2i. For more information, refer to our Help Center article.
Will the PULSE SOUNDBAR+ connect with ceiling-mounted speakers for Dolby Atmos processing?
Suppose the mounted ceiling speakers are PULSE FLEX streaming speakers or passive speakers powered by a POWERNODE. In that case, the ceiling speakers become a part of the Atmos virtualization when set up as a Home Theater Group. They function as rear surrounds, not Atmos height speakers.
What Bluesound players work as surrounds with the PULSE SOUNDBAR+?
You can use PULSE M or any generation of PULSE FLEX / POWERNODE as the surrounds of a Home Theater Group. Note that you require additional compatible passive speakers to use the POWERNODE as a Surround player. For more information, refer to our Help Center article.
Can I use Bluetooth headphones with the PULSE SOUNDBAR+?
The PULSE SOUNDBAR+ features two-way Bluetooth capabilities – you can connect to wireless Bluetooth headphones as well. For more information, refer to our Help Center article.
Can my wired subwoofer be used with the PULSE SOUNDBAR+?
