Vault 2i freezes.
AnsweredSince the recent 4.0.2 update Vault 2i keeps freezing unexpectedly, on playback and when ripping CD's. Worked fine with no problems before the update.

Hi folks, we are deploying 4.0.5 BluOS update today to apply some patches for the drive issues. Few comments: This updates the freezing issue and also cleans up a couple behaviour issues. What is also does is to stop allowing the Vault to be in Server Mode as this was contradictory as the Drives are already in that state and allowing shares from Vaults was causing a lot of secondary issues. So to be clear, the new update means that USB media inserted is seen only on the Vault and not extended. If you want content extended please add it to the Vault and reindex. We are planning another maintenance release on Tuesday for global BluOS to update some other things but as we discussed the team is releasing these updates today

Yes and your not the only one, Loads of us have the same issues.

Think I've fixed mine, I downloaded the firmware from BS, copied it to usb stick and installed it again. When it finished I powered down. On reboot I done a factory reset, since then it's played as it should from internal hdd, but still falls over streaming to my node. But at least I can now play my music. I shell do the same with the node when I get time..

Thanks Peter... and answered here; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/18406369707799-Bluesound-4-0-seems-to-be-broken

Please disconnect any and all USB drives from your VAULT. May of you have VAULT backups plugged in... (not a great place to keep your backup... it should be elsewhere, like in a fireproof box or at a your office away from your home...). Your backup is confusing BluOS Server Mode, a new feature in BluOS 4.0.
Once disconnected, please reboot your VAULT.
Once the LED on your VAULT returns to Solid Blue, select Settings, Diagnostics, Rebuild Index from the Home page.
Once rebuilt, play some content.
IF you have a USB with additional content (not a backup) then follow the steps here to enable Server Mode and merge your USB content into your Local Library; https://support.bluos.net/hc/en-us/articles/360037137354
We will be releasing an update in the near future to better handle Server Mode if you have a backup drive plugged into your VAULT, but again, this is only partial not complete disaster recovery planning, but kudos for actually backing up your music, many don't.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.0 -
I don't use a usb drive on mine, just done my node again but no luck. Vault still falls over when streaming to the node 😡

Also running BluOS 4.0.2, ... I *don't* use a USB drive in my Vault 2i. I am still having the same problems trying to play music stored on my Vault 2i. Problems occur when trying to play music from my library on Vault 2i, Pulse 2i, and PowerNode 2i.

I do NOT have any USB drives plugged into my VAULT2 but I STILL HAVE the issues since the firmwave update. I have never used the USB port on the back of my VAult.

I had done a usb backup, then cleared Vault’s internal HDD prior to 4. I clicked no to Server share, but now the restore of 30,000 tracks @ 740GB is estimated at 800 hours

I had this problem come up as well. I have not used a USB directly into the unit, just using my PC to add music to the Vault2I over my wired network connection. After nearly tearing my hair out I just found what seems to be a fix (for me): I turned Bluetooth off in the app. I am thinking that between the Bluetooth on my phone and tablet communicating with my watch, etc. the unit was possibly picking up the signals and auto switching trying to stream from those sources?. In any event, my issue is solved and I can now enjoy music again.
The other issue I found while attempting to resolve this issue is that WIN 10 Pro no longer shows the unit in my network (Wired through router, router see's the unit, can "connect" through PC using browser and IP address). Not sure if it's a Windows thing (probably, WIN sucks) and digging into that later today.
*Update: Worked for about 30mins and now back to starting a song and pausing with play button showing the "ring of death" like it's thinking or searching. Still not showing in network discovery either despite every tweak I could try (I am not a tech noob). Ready to junk the unit and buy something else. I've had this unit since June of 2021 and maybe it's time to move on to something more reliable. Disappointed.
I hope this helps someone!

I have followed Tony's instructions to a T (disconnecting the USB backup drive, rebooting and re-indexing). With 42,000 tracks, it took a little over an hour to rebuild the index. Once I started playback from my Vault 2 library, the audio dropped out once again after only 19 minutes of playback.

Yes, I have also rebuilt the index twice after shutting down, unplugging, and letting it sit without juice for five mins or so. Twice. Still having the issue.

I have the same problems: Vault 2, hardwired to network, with Node and Pulse (both WiFi). I don't have anything connected to the USB port on the Vault. Since the upgrade, music playing on the Node and Pulse intermittent or non-existent (I experience many of the experiences on these threads). I followed Tony's advice (reboot VAULT, Rebuild Index from the diagnostics page), and reindexing stuck at 16,500 tracks, and has been for a couple of hours.
P.S. Earlier I turned off Bluetooth, and rebooted all devices, to no avail.
P.P.S. the index rebuild must have finished overnight, since I have a blue LED on my Vault and what looks like an updated Library. Nevertheless, music playing from Vault to Pulse stopped after a few minutes with usual symptoms.

Having the same issues with my Vault 2 stopping playback after a few minutes. I rebooted and reindexed as Tony W instructed. The reindex has stalled about halfway through the process and has been stuck for a few hours now. *PLEASE* let us revert back to the previous OS!!

I have tried all of the suggested solutions, and still have the problem. Very frustrating, but I trust that a new update that fixes it will be coming soon (right, Tony?).

HI Richard - et al. Was just speaking with one of our Sr. Developers about this...
I will tell you we are starting to see a number of consumers resolving this after a full Rebuild Index. This process differs as it is purging the existing Local Library Index Database (no not the content, just the database) and building a new one from scratch. This is under Settings, Diagnostics, Rebuild Index.
-3 -
Tony, I've done this twice, and it didn't fix it. And I know some people who have tried this initially thought it fixed the problem, but it didn't.
4 -
Tony, I can assure you this wasn't the case for me -- unless the index rebuild failed without notifying me. But I kept my eye on progress for over an hour and saw no indication of incompletion. And yes, I did go into the Diagnostics setting to rebuild the index. Audio playback still cuts out anywhere between 30 seconds and 20 minutes.

Thanks for looking into this, Tony. Unfortunately, I have not been able to reindex since the upgrade; the reindex stalls about halfway through the process. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Here is another symptom: My internal Vault 2i disk is near full. To clear disk space and make it possible to rip more CDs, I link to the Vault 2i's internal disk, and move music files to a connected NAS drive. I have been doing this a few years without any problems. After I have moved enough files off of the internal disk to clear enough space, I then go to the diagnostics menu and perform a re-index. This has worked well for the past couple of years. But since the version 4 upgrade, copying from the Vault 2i's internal drive "stalls". I watch the files move over, monitoring the Windows status window. Periodically, the transfer rate slows to zero, and at that point I can't access the Vault 2i's drive anymore. The NAS drive is still accessible. This happens A LOT - like every 1.5 CD's worth of files. In my case, I have lots of files to move.
To make it work again, I have to re-boot the Vault 2i by removing power and reconnecting. Then I start copying again until the problem repeats. My guess is I had to reboot about 25-30 times today while copying.
I'm confident it's not a network problem.

Continuing from my previous entry, I finally finished moving music files off of the Vault 2i's internal disk. So I proceeded to perform (from the diagnostics menu) a rebuild index. My reindex stalled (like peter's above) at 96500 out of 114025 tracks. Note that I disconnected my backup drives, so no drives are connected through USB.

Just adding that I don't have any USB or other drives attached to my Vault and I still have issues of freezing while ripping CDs. I haven't played much music from it as I'm trying to finish ripping my library right now, but having to reboot the Vault so much is making that take quite a long time.

Made it through 2 rips, Vault is frozen after inserting the 3rd CD. The app lists everything in my library, but the circle just spins when trying to play any track, however streaming services still play fine. Rip/Encode status shows no CD inserted, Eject CD says "CD ejected" but nothing happens.

My Vault 2i freezes when reading the cd finishes, putting another disc in causes it to resume file conversion, or power off restart gets it going again. Who beta tested this release?

Makes me wonder if this was ever tested on the vault, amount of issues with v4 is a joke

Vault restore begun yesterday froze after an hour or so, only 6.5GB restored of 700 on drive.. Restore time estimate increased to 800 hours.
Today, Factory Reset Vault 2i, replaced into normal LAN with Static IP also on Flex 2i x 4 + SoundbarInitiated another Restore, which initially estimated 14 hours, but after 30 minutes that has blown out to 24 hours. Again, only 10GB of files restored and no activity for 20 minutes.
No Server Hub enabled, all devices = Bluetooth OFF. all on LAN
99.9% usage is my Music Collection ex CD, infinitesimal use of Music Services, so this is a massive hit.
It's replicated on NAS as well as AAC on Mac but both Navigation and Technical Quality remains superior on Bluesound.
Given the long lead time waiting for V4 and the plethora of issues others experienced, which may take considerable time to sort out, I would personally prefer a V3 Rollback to enable users to resume their listening pleasure uninterrupted. The longer the disenchantment persists the reputation will decrease for Lenbrook.4 -
My "fix" has now been working for nearly 36 hours so it seems to have stuck, but I had a call today from the retailer I bought my Vault through.
He'd been out when I rang at the weekend.
He told me they sell very few Vaults, possibly not even 1% the number of Nodes.
My suspicion is that all the development and testing was done on the Node and so they have been taken unawares by our problems.
Not perfect but understandable.I just hope they can work it out and release a new version within a few days or the outcry to make version 3 available again will be deafening.
Out of interest, did anyone find the old OS in need of an update?
As I hardly ever stream and when I do it is mainly talk radio shows I might be a bit of an out-layer here.1 -
Dave - your "fix" was just a full index rebuild, right? This didn't appear to work for me...

Peter NO. I asked it to do one and after an hour it seemed to have done nothing except tell me "3000 tracks processed" and then seemingly jammed.
But I read the idea of turning off bluetooth. Now mine was already turned off, so I turned it on, waited a few minutes and turned it off again.
When I looked at the player it had gone to a solid green light.
I had turned oof the controller, so I started that again and within a minute, the light had gone to blue, the library had gone from "0 songs" to the 29,000 odd that I actually had and the music played.
IT has been fine ever since.0
