Same here with a bluesound powernode 2021. It s not possible to use spotify on those conditions

It seems that Spotify has now implemented the required API part for the eSDK. The SpFormat struct now includes gain_mdb that indicates how much gain to apply to the current track. https://developer.spotify.com/documentation/commercial-hardware/implementation/reference/latest#spstreaminfo

Please implement this. It's really annoying to have to constantly adjust the volume.

Just bought a new PowerNode, and have exactly this problem when I play Spotify. It's very annoying to manually have to change the sound volume all the time. It doesn't matter what kind of normalisation I use (smart, track or album). Apparently this been a problem for years now. Please implement this!

    Hi Stefan

Enabling Audio Normalisation is controlled in the Spotify App under Settings, Playback.

No, not if you connect to Powernode with spotify connect. The settings can then only be done on Powernode. Spotify is effectively running on Powernode and the audio settings in Spotify are grayed out. As far as I can see this has been discussed for a couple of years now.

I can add that it's the same problem with Tidal when I use Tidal connect. The normalisation doesn't seem to work. Some songs on high volume and some on very low. Very annoying.

Agree, Spotify normalization doesn't work even though it's toggled in the Spotify app. Very annoying.

    What's the solution?

Any updates on this? I have same on my NAD C3050 with Bluesound card, it's super annoying having the volume jumping around in a listening session.

No, no updates. It's the same problem with Tidal, not only Spotify. I'm using normalisation both in Tidal and in the Bluesound setting, but still have to run up and down to change the volume. I'm using Tidal connect and have tried different settings, but it doesn't change anything.

Hey Stefan, this was more aimed at Support, who 2 years ago mentioned:

    Thanks for #LivingHiFi

One would have hoped this would have been addressed by now!

Any news on this, Spotify? Why do you leave your listeners in the cold?

I’m a new buyer and I have this problem too, can’t believe it still hasn’t been updated……

Unfortunately, Bluesound will not solve this in another 3 years. WiiM devices can handle this.

Yea even my 99 dollar wiim mini have loudness normalization so I really hope Bluesound could update their firmware too.

This is super annoying!!. Now that Spotify can run lossless, I signed up. I have to constantly adjust volume. Can you PLEASE sort this out!

It is really not useable as such and you should not claim that you are compatible with Spotify.

Please respond with the current status and your plan to resolve!

Complaining here won't change anything. Bluesound has been ignoring customer wishes for years.
Buy WiiM devices. They can do all of this with good quality.

That is so disappoining to hear. Please Bluesound respond with your plan!

Yes, very disappointing. It would be nice to get some feedback on this and many other issues that users are experiencing and sharing on this forum. Or at least explain why some functionality is not there (yet). Now it looks to everyone, including potential future buyers of Bluos products, like there’s no innovation and no improvements are being developed. And it seems to me that’s exactly what’s going on here and it’s both disappointing and annoying. I’m using a Powernode N330. It’s a beautiful product, but updates on the firmware and app are not sufficient enough so far in my opinion.

BluOS Uses the Spotify API. BluOS is not Android based so does not use the Spotify App for Android deployed on the front panel. Please use the Spotify App as designed by Spotify to do so.

It seems like you don't understand the problem. We are using spotify connect, and the app is basically just used as a remote. We experience the same problem with Tidal connect as well as Qobuz connect (which I'm using now). Also the same problem when app is running on iPhone or iPad. Normalisation set in the app does not translate into normalization in the Bluos hardware.

The Spotify App on both Android and iOS won’t let you change the audio settings when using Spotify Connect on any hardware endpoint and rightfully so as the music is not playing on the Android / iOS device. You can test by using Bluetooth instead to see the options are now enabled.

In the past Spotify normalization never worked using connect and still to this day on the Spotify website they state… “Note: The web player and 3rd-party devices (like TVs or speakers) don’t use loudness normalization.“ has this changed?

I'm using "smart" replay gain as a bluOS setting and it doesn't help. Also tried the other available options, and they don't change anything either. Just doesn't work.

Hi Stefan, the settings in the BluOS app are for local media which have replay-gain tag values calculated and added into the metadata which BluOS can read.

  • Stefan Pålsson

Yes, but isn't that true for all spotify/qobuz/tidal music. They all have metadata added as it works if I play the music on the ipad. But it does not work when I use qobuz connect and play it on the bluOS hardware. I'm not the only one having this problem, so it seems bluOS doesn't read it correctly.

If the representatives from bluesound, just used their own system and played a playlist from spotify, they would immediately see the problem! Wiim does this with no probelm from what I have heard. It's time to get going!

Jim and Stefan are absolutely right, replay gain doesn’t work when using either Spotify connect or tidal connect! This has been an ongoing issue and I have seen countless people talk about this for years. We love Bluesound and as someone who studied in Canada for 7 years, Canadian hifi products have a special place in my heart but man, WiiM is just more responsive to customer feedback and they already offer built in volume normalization when using Spotify or tidal. Please Bluesound fix this issue before losing more potential customers.

I am canadian and I hate to see Wimm eating the Bluesound lunch. Wake up!  I just got my node and I was tempted to go with Wiim as there are so many positive reviews. Please don't let me regreat my choice!
