Connecting The Pulse Sub Via RT100 To A Pulse Flex Family

I currently have 3 first generation Pulse Flex. I want to add a fourth Flex to complete the family and also a Pulse Sub via the RT100.

Questions:

1) Putting the Pulse Sub to one side for a minute, is there any issues in adding a Flex 2i to a family of 3 first generation Flex?

2) I was going to make the 2i the lead Flex so this will be the Flex that holds the USB key with my record collection on and the Flex that receives AV audio via the optical in. Is that a good idea?

3) How do I connect the Pulse Sub to the Flex family using the RT100?

4) Will the Pulse Sub appear in the Bluesound app once connected via the RT100?

5) I read somewhere that the Sub or RT100 converts audio to analogue before transmission, what are the implications for 24-bit audio?

6) On balance is it worth spending £700 ($900) adding the Pulse Sub via the RT100 to a family of 4 Flex? 

Sorry for all the questions, its just quite a bit of money to spend so want to make sure its all going to work and sound amazing!

    Hello Luke,

    I will do my best to provide answers to your questions below.

    1) There will be no compatibility issues by introducing a 2i player to your previous generation players.

    2) I would suggest having your 2i player act as the primary player of your group. Since only 2i players are compatible with Airplay 2, by having the 2i player act as the primary player you can send audio over Airplay 2 to your 2i player to pass along to your entire player group.

    3) When using an RT100 with a player group, the RT100 can be connected to any player in that group. Since you would like to have a USB library attached to your primary player, you will want to connect your RT100 to one of your secondary players. To do this, you will want to first disband your player group, then pair the RT100 to your Pulse Sub following the steps in the article below. After pairing the RT100 and Pulse Sub, you can regroup your players.

    4) Since the Pulse Sub can not be controlled independently and requires to be paired with another Bluesound player, the Pulse Sub will not appear as its own player in the BluOS app.

    5) The Pulse Sub support 24-bit audio even over the RT100

    6) This question is more a matter of opinion and would depend more on your budget and your listening experience. If you would like to add more bass to your Pulse Flex group, adding a Pulse Sub is definitely a way to achieve this.

    Just one last question in that case. Does that mean that I will not be able to form a Fixed Group that includes the Pulse Sub if I'm using the  RT100?

    Hello Luke,

    With the Pulse Sub connected to one of your Pulse Flexes using an RT100, the low frequencies of that particular Pulse Flex will wirelessly play to the Pulse Sub. By putting this particular Pulse Flex connected in a Fixed group, the Pulse Sub will play the audio of the group as well without needing to be grouped itself.

    OK, I think I get it.

    I pair the Flex with the RT100 and I can then create a Fixed Group in the usual way with the RT100 paired Flex included. The Pulse Sub will then play the low frequencies of the entire Fixed Group. Is that right?

    Will the presence of the Sub in anyway remove the burden of the lower frequencies from the grouped Flex family so those speakers can concentrate on mid and high frequencies? I’m guessing not, but figured I’d ask. Thanks for all your help, Wesley, really appreciate it!

    Hello Luke,

    Yes, you are correct that the RT100 being connected to any player of a group will have that Sub play the same content as the rest of the group.

    Unfortunately, due to limitations of the Pulse Flex, the connected Sub will not apply a crossover frequency to reduce the load of the connect Pulse Flex or others in the group as it would with other Bluesound players.
