What's the difference between DAC in BluSound products?
AnsweredI've been enjoying my Pulse 2i for about 6 months now. I have it connected to my amp/speakers using analog (headphone) output. The streaming stability and the controller app are great, and the sound it pretty good too. Much better experience than trying to use a laptop as source. Since the Pulse does not have a digital output I use the internal DAC, and I'm wondering if the DAC is the same on the Pulse 2i as it is in the Node 2i, and PowerNode. Adding a Node 2i seems like a good idea, because it gives me more flexibility, and I could use the Pulse in another part of the house. Would the sound quality be the same using the internal DAC on the Pulse 2i and the Node 2i?
Second question....I often listen to Radio Swiss Classic/Jazz Internet radio stations using TuneIn on the Pulse 2i. On their website they state that when using the web player the quality is MP3 128kbps, but if you use their iOS app you get aacPlus at 32 kbps, or if you tap the HQ control you get aacPlus at 96 kbps. Is there any way the Pulse can access the higher quality aacPlus streams?
Thanks

Hi Geoff
Question 2 first. On the 2i products, select AirPlay from the Stations App.
Question 1 now... Gen 2i products and most Gen 2 products (except the PULSE 2) use a Burr Brown 24/192 DAC. Gen 1 Players and the PULSE 2 use a Cirrus Logic DAC (you mentioned a Powernode in a way that makes me think this is the original Gen1 'Cube' design).
...but as one of our Sr. Engineers is fond of saying, 'Just because you have Emril's cook book doesn't make you can cook like Emril'.Glad you are enjoying #LivingHiFi.
