Powernode N330 subwoofer rumbling when turned on
AnsweredWhen the Powernode N330 is turned on (out of standby) the subwoofer makes a rumbling sound. In 10 seconds the rumbling sound of the sub decays and is gone, after that the sound is ok.
At first I thought it was the power supply of the sub. I unplugged both the amp and the sub and first plugged the sub back in. Nothing happened. After I plugged in the amp the rumbling sound came back, so I ruled out its the sub. On this forum I read other related issues with the subwoofer-output on the amp. What to do?
Another issue I have quite often is sound drop-out of around a second of the main speakers in the first minute of music and TV-sound playback. This issue occurs when connected via wifi and via ethernet.
Please advise.

Another user frustrated with the subwoofer rumble. There’s enough of a signal when not playing music to prevent the sub from going into standby. After playing music for a time it sounds like it goes away. But a few minutes after pausing is back.

I think it goes without saying, same issue here started after working great for a long while…. SMH! I’ve just started turning my sub on after the fact but, will monitor the thread because it’s BS at the price point; especially with almost no one in this chat getting resolution.
**Any updates on this yet Bluesound???
Powernode -> SVS4k

Hi Seth and Matthew
Read through the thread as many of these issues reported will vary depending on your situation. For a full diagnosis though, please feel free to select Settings, Send Support Request in the BluOS App so our Support Crew can tailor their answers to your specific sub or identify a possible issue with your POWERNODE.
Seth mentioned an SVS brand sub-woofer. These Subs do have a reputation for being extremely sensitive to impedance issues. Our Support Crew has a trick or two up their sleeves.

Thanks Tony, I will give it a go running through the app and see what tricks are available. I swapped in an old Klipsch sub that still gave the same result, only with a little less sensitivity on impedance characteristics like you mentioned. Thanks.

My powernode gave also a rumbling sound as mentioned before. The powernode was send for repair to Bluos. They repaired the sub out. Now the powernode works fine. The only downside is, that it toke 8 weeks before I had the powernode back.

I currently have 451344 open for this same issue - bluesound already replaced it one time and now the replacement they sent is doing the same thing! I never heard that this required a hardware repair so interested to see how they handle my support request for replacement this time around…

I am experiencing the same issue with my subwoofer, especially while listening from the HDMI ARC input from a Samsung TV. The subwoofer constantly rumbles and produces unwanted sounds, but this doesn’t happen when using Spotify Connect.
I’m using a REL T Zero MKII.
The only way to temporarily solve the issue is by switching off the sub :/

Received a software update but does not provide solution for unwanted subwoofer sound

It is not software related but can be caused by setup - as mentioned certain subs are very sensitive to impedance. Our Support Crew can help you determine that.

Here is my answer to support crew:
“ You can find attached the video. Background noise completely stops if I disconnect rca cable from powernode even if the sub gain is at maximum. Starts back as soon as I connect it to powernode. My sub is Presonus eris sub 8 bt. However there are a lot of complaints in the forum from different sub owners. It is not about the sensitivity of subwoofers. Even if the powenode is in standby mode sub-out produces strong signal so that subwoofer creates unwanted noise and never goes to no-signal input sleep mode automatically. In order to stop this bass noise I completely shutdown powernode when I don’t listen music.
My sub has bluetooth connection too. That’s why I’m asking you to enable in software simultaneous playback via bluetooth and integrated power amp of powernode. Currently when I connect sub via bluetooth as bluetooth headphone, integrated amp stops playing, but sub works well without background noise. “
@Tony I agree with you that it is most probably not a software issue but failure of some internal hardware components. However due to customs policies I’m unable to send it back for examination from Turkey.
But the problem is resolvable for me with software update if you allow us to connect subwoofer via bluetooth and let it simultaneously playback with integrated amplifier of powernode.0 -
But the problem is resolvable for me with software update if you allow us to connect subwoofer via bluetooth and let it simultaneously playback with integrated amplifier of powernode.
For a number of reasons that will not happen.. mostly due to sync issues. If simultaneous output of BT and hardware was possible and met Bluesound's standards for synchronised playback, we would have done it by now. Thanks for understanding.

Hi Tony. You can overcome the bluetooth sync issue easily by adding a delay function. This should at least be offered as an option to customers. People can decide for themselves whether to use it or not. Otherwise, you are leading us into a dead end. It has already been stated in previous messages that the issue could not be resolved by hardware replacements.
So, what do you suggest we do? Should we give up on Bluesound and look for other manufacturers?

I found a workaround if you only listen to music with your system. I set everything to only play in CD quality, both Qobuz and Radio Paradise. Of course this is not ideal, because Qobuz has hi-res audio that I am missing out. However, I have to admit that I barely distinguish hi-res and CD quality from my LS50 metas and KC62 sub. Maybe the KEFs are not as capable, maybe it’s my room, or perhaps my ears (I do hear the difference using headphones, though). Like I said, this is just a workaround, and the whole thing is disappointing. I will certainly choose another brand of streamer/amplifier next time.
Edit: this eliminates both the popping sounds and the rumbling.

My PowerNode N330 just started rumbling on wake-up this week, It has been working perfectly for a couple of years, but now on every wake-up I get 10-15 seconds of rumbling. Is the consensus on the forum that this is a hardware issue and I should return it to the shop where I purchased it for repairs?

Honestly…this won’t get fixed. If you get a new one, the new one will eventually succumb to the same rumbling behavior.
I just said to hell with the sub out. I run a full left and right rca signal to my SVS sub with a y-splitter then do all my low freq crossover settings in the sub itself. Turn sub-out off in bluesound settings and let a full signal go through to your main speakers. Your main speakers’ crossovers will do as designed with the full signal. Everything is smooth sailing with all my nodes since wiring everything like that.

Joppe, that was my experience (hardware issue). It worked for years and started rumbling. After troubleshooting with BlueSound they sent me a replacement PowerNode

Same for me...hardware issue, I'm on my third one.

Hi, This is a chronic issue. Users are trying to find their own solutions, but Bluesound refuses to provide one. High-quality harmonic filters might fix the problem, but why spend that kind of money for a relatively inexpensive amplifier? I sold my Bluesound + LS50 setup and bought the LS50W2 instead, which works perfectly with the same subwoofer. I won’t be buying another Bluesound or NAD product again. Their lack of concern for customer satisfaction will only hurt them.

Hi Joshua, how do you run rca cables to the sub when the PowerNode has no line out?

I expressed the same concern with rumbling eventually happening with my second replacement but support told me that the issue should be resolved with the later versions of the 330 which is what they sent me this time....time will tell. If you have a REL sub, you can use their hi-level cable which connects to the main speaker terminals and just turn off the Sub filter in the node. I did that for a while, and it worked great.

@GDL, turning off 24 bit didn't work for me. At first it seemed to work (which I was very excited about because I love the sound of the Powersound node when working properly) but eventually the rumbling returned.
@Joppe, I'm assuming that Joshua meant using a full signal speaker wire to rca adapter like this one that SVS sells. I tried this and although it solves the rumbling problem, I could not get anything other than a muddy LFE experience, no matter what I tried to do with the crossovers. This config also reduces the power output of the PowerNode due to the increased signal output going to the sub. YMMV though.
Unfortunately that leaves me with using the Powernode as an expensive headphone amplifier

So, an update from the Netherlands. After some discussions with support about resetting and stuff, I got to the point where I was asked to send my address, photo of the serial number and some other info. I thought this is going in the right direction (hoping for a new or refurbished unit). But then I got a reply that I had to contact the local distributor (Dali Benelux).
So I went to the shop where I bought the unit. The Powernode got repaired. Some changes to the sub output and power supply. The cost was 150 Euro's but out of 'goodwill' it was 'only' 100 Euro's. I complained that this was a know product failure and any cost would be unacceptable. The shop renegotiated with the repair firm. The price went down and in the end the shop took the last bit of repair cost (which is excellent service of the shop and I will gladly buy there again).
