Tidal Connect on BluOS-devices not working with Android 14 anymore?

I am also becoming more and more frustrated. I opened another ticket with Tidal, to make clear what has been happening on this thread. Same response. Generic comments, followed by the suggestion that I contact Bluesound. I mean, two months. This needs to be fixed.

I will not hold my breath with Tidal - It is clear this problem sits with Bluesound.

I hate to be that guy, but "me too"; maybe these equipment and version info may help diagnose:

    • PowerNode BluOS 4.2.6
    • Pixel 6a, Android 14 (from December 5, 2023)
    • Android Tidal app 2.96.0.11144.146
    • macOS Tidal app 4.2.0

It seemed to stop working with the BluOS 4.0 update: hitting the Android Tidal app's "Tidal Connect" does not turn the speaker-playing icon green and no sound comes out. (Sending it via ChromeCast to an olde ChromeCastAudio connected by fiber to the PowerNode does work.)

Since the problems began, I've seen the Android Tidal app work once or twice, like after uninstalling/reinstalling, but not reliably enough to be usable.
I've power cycled the router and the PowerNode as other Support articles have suggested, no help.
Per a suggestion in this topic, I've tried making the first connection with a non-Android-14 device (macOS), then the Pixel but no change.

I just now cleared the Android Tidal app's cache and was able to connect it to the PowerNode, but I suspect that's a fluke and may not help long term. Curios if this helps other folks.

The macOS Tidal app works with "Tidal Connect" just fine.

I just installed the Tidal app on an ancient phone running Android 9 and it connected immediately.

I messaged Tidal support about this issue, and also received the message that the "It appears this issue may be related to your device and we suggest reaching out to Bluesound Support for further assistance".... incredibly frustrating.

I've successfully used another workaround, however (Im using a Pixel 6 Pro): (1) android settings > Apps > Tidal; (2) Force Stop; (3) Reopen App and connect with Tidal Connect.

That sounds like a lot of work

The method works everytime but I have two force stop the app twice.  Quick way is to long-press the Tidal icon, and go to i (for app info).

I have a Google Pixel 6 and the force stop method does not work for me unfortunately.

Maybe this helps... Samsung S22. To get access to Nad Mdc Bluos from tidal connect, I have to do a few tries, from simply clearing Tidal's cache in Android preferences, to bouncing between terminate the Bluos app first and then Tidal, sometimes twice. I haven't found a pattern, it just seems random.

I remember that Tidal had some strange behavior when Android 14 arrived, even with Android Auto, then apparently fixed, I don't know if by Android or Tidal...

@Alexender, I've noticed you need to force quite BOTH Tidal and BluOS. Then start with Tidal. I have also found playback on the phone speaker first, then select Tidal Connect. That's been working pretty reliably (if you can call a hacky workaround "reliable" for a hi end setup).

@Reuben, I tried that and still didn't work sadly. It's pretty random when it does actually work and not using any methods mentioned in this thread.

@bluesound Any updates on this? What exactly is the issue with Tidal Connect on Android 14? I'm wondering, for instance, it still works flawless for Sonos...?

    @Mark

Don't know about Sonos but I can say that Tidal connect and Android 14, work perfectly on WiiM streamer...

Andrew, any update on progress between Bluesound and Tidal? Hoping you're still monitoring this thread.

    Hi,

Is there any update or progress on this subject?

I still cannot connect with Android 14 (also after reboot and initial connection with Android 13 device)

    Thanks in advance

Thank you all for your continued patience. We continue to work with TIDAL regarding the fact that TIDAL Connect does not support IPv6 on Android 14 devices. As mentioned here; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/18722793189783/comments/19587076357015 there are some tips to have IPv4 still work and create the initial link.

As mentioned we will keep you posted as updates become available...

Again I'm grateful for Tony's update. I believe I said this on the other thread, but the workaround he mentions does work for me, but only temporarily. Still holding tight for a fix...

    Hi Tony,

This morning I sent a request to Tidal, to which I received this answer (image below). It would be nice if Tidal's support staff would provide the same message as you do, because this only causes confusion and frustration. Luis' response isn't helpful at all, and frankly I am getting quite fed up and considering to end my subscription.

FWIW, I have only received versions of this response from Tidal. Multiple tickets.

And here's my response to Luis at Tidal's support staff:

    Nicely done.

Another workaround I haven't seen in this thread yet is to disable battery management of the Tidal app:
Settings > Apps > Tidal > Battery > Unlimited (don't know the exact English naming, as my OS is Dutch)

I think it's worth trying, as I didn't see the problem occurring on my Android 14 for a day now. Before this, I had to restart, clean cache etc. at least twice a day.

Thanks Dennis, this seems to do the trick indeed!
Tidal Connect on my Google Pixel Pro 7 is now playing for a couple of hours, flawless.
(Maybe the MQA processing by Tidal demands a lot of energy/memory, where Spotify's format doesn't. But that's just an uneducated guess).
Fingers crossed but it seems very promising!

Sadly, it did not work for me on my Pixel 6a. I was hopeful, but no luck.

Same, still no joy with any workarounds

I would like to specify that with my S22 and Android 14, once made the connection among Tidal and Bluos on Nad c3050, streaming never stops. The problem comes after a long pause, overnight or surely after some hours. In those cases, Tidal connect sees the Bluos but any attempt to reconnect, fails until I force some app termination from android preferences. The most frequent case is with two consecutive termination of Bluos followed by a termination and restart of Tidal. Any setting of battery I tried didn't change anything.

On the same environment I have a WiiM mini streamer, also seen by Tidal connect and it never fails to be reached by Tidal, even just after a missed attempt on Bluos.

Forced termination of BluOS app and Tidal app on my Pixel 6a also is most likely to result in a successful Tidal Connect with my Node 2i. It never holds, unfortunately, and it doesn't always work.

    Don't know if could help...

Since I do Tidal connect from Bluos Mdc Nad card and a WiiM streamer toslink hooked to same amp also, I noted some differences (other than the fact that WiiM connection always works), in the way Tidal connect interacts with those softwares.

    Bluos:

    - update of playing time is every 5 seconds

    - Tidal doesn't keep track of recently played albums nor playlists

    WiiM:

    - playing time updated every second

    - recently played are updated

I've been dealing with this for a long time now. Found this thread yesterday. It is difficult to express just how frustrating this has been. Before finding this thread I was doing network resets, Bluos factory resets, Tidal and Bluos APP force stops,Tidal and Bluos APP Uninstaller and re-install etc etc. While the work around help and reduce the frustration it's too late. Eversolo ordered. Life is too short. When I want to listen to my system I don't need between 15 minutes and several hours of fiddling. Too bad because I liked my 2i and the way it just hid in my system.

My joy turned out to be short-lived, and I cheered too early, as it worked for several hours, but the next day Tidal Connect would not connect to my Node 2i and everything remains as before.

With regards to playing music after selecting the Tidal 'My Music' option within BluOS app: not only are many albums missing when you use search, but also favorite albums that I newly added in the Tidal app are only partly included in the overview of my albums (sorted from recent to older). Why some are included and others are left out is beyond my grasp...

Hi all. I just recently got my NAD 758 Receiver and am new to BluOs. Unfortunately, Tidal connect does not work for me at all (Pixel 6 Pro). According to this thread, it seems like firmware version 4.2.6 would solve the issue, but unfortunately, my receiver is on 4.2.3 and when checking for updates it says there are no updates.

Any hints on what is wrong?
