Bluesound 4.0 seems to be broken

Mostly similar experience to report. With the very inception of the OS upgrade (which I tried to "Delay" multiple times to no effect), playback from my Vault 2 crashed. I've corresponded with the support crew but haven't gotten a reply since Friday. During my own troubleshooting this weekend, I've determined that the fault lies SOLELY with the upgrade. It's not my router, or my external DAC, or my AV setup, or my receiver, or my cables, or my custom settings, or even my Zone B Pulse speaker (which has always been problematic in terms of the wifi disconnecting and reconnecting on its own). As with other dissatisfied customers, if I reboot the Vault 2, music from my library will play for 24 minutes to 2 hours before the sound disappears. If I just close the app(s) and reboot them, I'm lucky if I can hear playback for more than 40 seconds before the audio drops out. One consistent mystery I've encountered is why the countdown timer accelerates like crazy the longer a track plays; it will count down 60 seconds in 20, while the track duration number jumps around like crazy. At the support crew's suggestion, I turned off the Audio Clock Trim setting, but the countdown timer still runs berserk.

I agree with everyone else here. Bluesound MUST provide a "downgrade" to the previous OS. I'm extremely annoyed, and not just with Bluesound for releasing an upgrade that essentially bricks the Vault player, but also the many euphoric articles written about BluOS 4.0 by Beta test reviewers. Obviously none of these sycophants tested the new OS using a Vault. They should lose their publishing credentials over this.

I'm missing an official statement from Bluesound on all of this. Lots of unhappy users, bricked devices, no option to downgrade...

People have spent their hard-earned money on this equipment, and now they can only guess at what comes next and WHEN...

Think I've fixed mine, I downloaded the firmware from BS, copied it to usb stick and installed it again. When it finished I powered down. On reboot I done a factory reset, since then it's played as it should from internal hdd, but still falls over streaming to my node. But at least I can now play my music. I shell do the same with the node when I get time..

For what it's worth, add me to the list.  I have a Vault 2i and am having similar problems, but can add three additional symptoms:

    1) Backup stalls.  I initiate the backup.  At first, the disk access lights on my backup drive flicker (as it should), but then it stops as if there is no disk activity.  I left it up all night, but the status on the Bluesound UI never changes and never indicates backup complete, even though I don't have that much new content to backup.

    2) Accessing internal storage from a Windows computer is extremely slow, if it works at all.

    3) Ripping seems to be slightly affected - the ripping goes fine, but sometimes the last couple of tracks stay in the "encoding" status for a very long time.  Sometimes it finishes if I insert another CD to be ripped.

I have rebooted everything - routers, players, etc, and waited over 5 minutes as recommended above, but no changes in the problem...

    Thanks everyone for your patience.

Please disconnect any and all USB drives from your VAULT. May of you have VAULT backups plugged in... (not a great place to keep your backup... it should be elsewhere, like in a fireproof box or at a your office away from your home...). Your backup is confusing BluOS Server Mode, a new feature in BluOS 4.0.

Once disconnected, please reboot your VAULT.

Once the LED on your VAULT returns to Solid Blue, select Settings, Diagnostics, Rebuild Index from the Home page.

    Once rebuilt, play some content.

IF you have a USB with additional content (not a backup) then follow the steps here to enable Server Mode and merge your USB content into your Local Library; https://support.bluos.net/hc/en-us/articles/360037137354

We will be releasing an update in the near future to better handle Server Mode if you have a backup drive plugged into your VAULT, but again, this is only partial not complete disaster recovery planning, but kudos for actually backing up your music, many don't.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

    One more thing...

Please provide feedback on your VAULT freezing on this thread; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/18490369188247-Vault-2i-freezes-

This is where we will be posting updates and monitoring this issue we are investigating.

    Hi Karl

Likely a corrupt file in your database. Please select Settings, Send Support Request so our Support Crew can take a closer look. Please be advised we are seeing a high volume of calls currently so may take a day or 2.

Tony: I have had similar problems reindexing. Since the Upgrade. NEVER had issues reindexing prior to the upgrade. Seems most likely that the issue is related to the upgrade, not a corrupt file.

HI Peter - we cannot confirm that without the log. If it is the new update, then the log file will help our Product Development team answer the question of why for everyone.

Please also send us a log.

    Thanks

There is a controller update available now labelled 4.0.1.
    Anyone tried it yet?

through a lot of researching through discussion groups,I was finally able to do a total reindex of my music and regain all of my artwork...I simply shut off the Bluetooth in the BluOs app and the reindex process went smoothly...don't know whether bluetooth was enabled when I downloaded the 4.0 update, but quite possibly was as I never encountered such problems before

    Karl
I've been waiting to see the results of the new update from someone using it.
No comments on it from the Bluesound people, just a sudden appearance!
The bluetooth thing seemed to work for me, too, and likewise I do not know if it was on or off previously.

Dave, the update for the Windows controller fixes the "time remaining display," and that works fine.  Not sure if the update includes anything else, but it works fine for me.

    Richard, thanks for that.
I'll install it later this morning when the heat gets up and i close the house down. IT's due to be another 35C day here... if you're American, that's around 95F.

Also an issue for me.  After BluOS upgrade, my vault 2i stops playing tracks after about 15 minutes.  Then cannot find the player either by app or by looking for it on my Network.  I have been emailing dialogueing with Support for over a week.  They cannot solve the problems, asked me to Reset vault, I did, still not working.....

    Hi together

I have exactly the same problem as has been described by Richard Carlson and others at the beginning of this post.

After updating all my devices to 4.02 (I use Windows, Android and iPad) the problem started. When I used vault2i for streaming after a while it stopped working and dropped out of the group (see pictures down, unfortunately in German). The indicator which turns while playing continued, however there was no sound coming out of the loudspeakers. Once an error message popped up indicating that the amount of transmitted data was not enough, however this is for sure not the reason since the identical system worked for more than a year without any problems.

I reset everything including all the switches, router etc several times without having any influence on this issue. Always after the reset/reboot all worked fine for a certain time and then the whole story started again.......

    Streaming from Qobuz works fine.

It would be nice to get support to resolve this issue.

    Cheers, Felix

I even installed older versions from bluos (Windows versions), however it had no effect of this issue with the vault2i.

Sorry all - I missed updating this thread over the past few days. Yes We can confirm a low-level kernel error is causing cases where the VAULT may stop responding after 15-20 minutes of serving music or ripping. We are working to address this and push an update as soon as we possibly can.

Please follow this thread regarding the issue; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/18490369188247/comments/18605640884759#community_comment_18605640884759

I just want to specify that, having just been offered a 3rd iteration of the Mac-BluOS 4.0 series (Mac BluOS 4.0.2), I can now finally access my computer library in the "Folder" option. But I still cannot get BluOS to index an external USB drive (WD powered). When I connect the drive to Node2, the white light is on for two seconds then stops. The app prompts a "USB inserted" but of course, I can't see any content in it. I connected the drive on my computer to see if it could have been altered in the process, it's fine. Accessing music file on that USB drive was fine with BluOS 3.0. Note that the drive contains other folders that are not music, but that did not bothered 3.0. I'm waiting to hear more about the updates before I reformat that drive in an attempt to use it with only a music folder, which I suspect would be a waste of time.

I see that the updates are causing all kinds of other issues and that Bluesound seems pretty busy. I think the wisdom here is to release beta versions or possibility to revert, a no brainer if you ask me.

This morning I found another controller update for my Vault2 and loaded it with a little trepidation!
It is listed as Windows 4.0.2 BluOS 4.0.2.
I followed my usual habit and after downloading and installing, I rebooted the laptop (which is where I use the controller)
    Everything looked fine.
I chose an album and pressed play all.
I got through the album without any problems.
Whenever I looked, the timer seemed to be working properly which I take as a good sign.
I have to go out now, but hopefully, later, others will have tried this new version and (in a perfect world) we will experience no problems!
For now I  am keeping the update to just one of the 3 controllers I can use, but, as I say, no problems so far.
    Good work there, Bluesound Folks.

Bluesound 4.0 seems to cut in and out. Not showing HDMI connection on my Bluesound soundbar.

I meant HDMI/ARC. This shows up on the MacBook Air where I have BluOS Controller 3.18.4 but not on the MacBook Pro where I installed BluOS Controller 4.0. Please advise as to what you intend to do to resolve this.

    Hi Pike

We are having a hard time replicating this. Can you please send us a log file by having the SOUNDBAR selected as you player then in the App for macOS select Help, Send Support Request?

Our Support Crew will review the log then get back to you via email to help better understand what is happening in your setup.

    Thanks

Soundbar used to be brilliant before latest update and i am having same problems of sound dropping. Talking to BS and its all about my router and not their software - advised to change DNS settings on router which i am not confident about doing. What am I now meant to do with a £800 brick that does not work and is unreliable. Please get this sorted it is so disappointing

Now finally after a month my issue seems to be fixed with BluOs 4.2.2.  I hope you will learn something from this debacle, that leaves your customers helpless with their expensive equipment. An apology for messing up would be appropriate.

Unfortunately, OUR issues are now just starting. We open the app and it spins saying it's looking for players (we have 3, including the vault) and then stops and says No Player Found and to Open WiFi Settings (which are fine) or to Retry. We were playing music several days ago on all three players and it stopped after an hour maybe? Neither of us turned it off (husband was outside [we have a player that transmits to speakers outside], I was inside). We've unplugged, plugged back in, force stopped on the app. Nothing works.

It's pretty bold of Bluesound to tell nearly everyone with the issue that it must be something with their routers, etc. The common denominator is the upgrade. I see no option to download the previous version, which worked great for us. We didn't ask for this hassle. Please look into all of this and fix it. We paid a lot of money for this system and it not working after having an upgrade foisted upon us that has effed up our systems is unacceptable.

I should say that after update to BluOS 4.2.0 (released November 7?), all my problems have gone away, the system is working fine again. Actually, even better, as I had problems with backups which seem to have been eradicated. (Vault, wired; Pulse and Node x 2, on WiFi)

Good for you, I still have problems that were present before AND after the upgrade. For example: Audio drops when watching movies (pre 4.0), speakers out of sync after a while, sub+ just disconnecting after a while, (post 4.0). Those are the really annoying ones that really takes the fun away because the LEAST an audio system should be able to do is listen to audio right? Oh and there are some smaller GUI bugs that are STILL not fixed after a month. Great stuff :(
