Typically when files are shared on a network the device performing the sharing is wired by Ethernet. This can be seen in NAS devices and the Bluesound Vault that has absolutely no Wi-Fi networking.

If your NODE is also wireless then you have two wireless hops (laptop to router, router to Node) and it’s this that’s the bottleneck. If you can try using the laptop wired (Ethernet)

When you use the controller to play Amazon HD is literally just a remote control and no music is streamed from the laptop which is why it’s working.

    Thanks for the quick reply-

The node player is connected by ethernet, the new laptop doesn't have an ethernet port so can only be connected to the network wirelessly.   So you think the library has to be on a machine that has a wired connection to the network?    Or maybe on a USB flashdrive in the USB port on the Node?

USB flashdrive plugged into the NODE would be better than using wireless, do have a look at your Router as most can double up as a basic NAS. There are some limitations of using a drive connected directly…
