Thank you Bluesound for asking our input, not every business would do that.

This being said, I personally would appreciate more consideration for those users working with a desktop/laptop (me) without touch screens. The side bars are so narrow it makes navigating the menu's rather difficult. Scrolling is not a fine experience, having to use the edge of my touchpad to scroll down a list of tracks because there are no scrollbar arrows! Moreover the app makes poor use of the available surface, more information could be made available. For these reasons I'm almost forced to use the obsolete, but very user friendly, 2.14.0 controller.

Should one of your dev's have some spare time on his hands, a Linux version of the controller would be very useful.

NAD C368 / Pulse 2i (2) / Pulse Flex here. Obviously generally satisfied with BlueSound. A couple of items on the wish list in priority order: (1) Alpha sort for Artists in Deezer; (2) For my library: I index based on Track Artist field, not Artist so a Artist list based on the Track Artist field would be great; (3) Also for the music library it would be great to display the Artist/Album list in a line by line mode (Alpha or by Year) with either small artwork or none.

Frankly, version 4 appears to offer opportunity for improvement rather than a radical restructuring, so it will be interesting to see how it evolves. Whatever my issues, BlueSound is better than anything else I have tried.

Here's a quick sneak peek video of BluOS 4.0. We are really excited about this.

BluOS 4.0 app offers cleaner layout and easier navigation - YouTube

Mark, but is it an UI overhall only, or will there be new features as well ?

Or do we have to wait until mar/apr as the video states to find out. If the timeline holds. :)

Well, still no release of the new bluos....what's happening over there?

  • BluOSfan

By now it seems like vaporware to me.

Just like the Dirac Live Bass Control that NAD promised 3 years ago.

Almost summer now.  Still NO BluOS 4.0….
I am getting very disappointed with this firm. Many, many errors in the current app for many years. And still no improvement.  This is not a class A firm anymore.

    Hi Tony

Thank you for the update. Nice with the visibility.

Can you share any details as to if anything else has been added to 4.0, which causes the delay? I.e. new features, rework of the architecture behind the wireless features etc?

  • Jens Damgaard

Fair enough… that’s software development (even though I was/am of course extremely excited to try out the new update.)

In all honesty... we just want to get it right and felt delaying the release was best for you, our consumers rather than releasing what we were not happy with and knew you wouldn't be either.

Without best testers how would you know customers wouldn't be happy?

This is the whole point of having beta testers and offering feature requests...to get an accurate pulse of the customers, instead of guessing.

Thanks for the update Tony. I'd rather wait than be disappointed with a subpar release. In the meantime I hope to see more refinement with the current release (can you say Qobuz sort options?). Overall I'd say I've been pretty happy with my Bluesound experience (N130, Node 2, and Pulse Flex). There's been some hiccups of course but kudos for the continued effort.

Please mention October which Year ? We are waiting from last 2022 year from last official announcement. And I’m seriously.

No doubt a difficult decision but the right one given the high profile of this relaunch. As they say....measure twice, cut once.

2022, @Aliaxandr? The media release announcing the BluOS 4.0 mobile application update was dated January 26, 2023.

Being in the Northern Hemisphere, I realize that I have been too Northern Hemisphere centric.

In fact, "Spring" in Southern Hemisphere hasn't even started yet and will end on December 21, 2023.

This means, Blue Sound has ample time to meet their "Spring" timeline of 2023 😄

Do you have on your 4.0 roadmap a consideration to introduce a max volume setting for the NAD C658?

@Chrys Nikolopoulos, volume limiting feature for the NAD C 658 was added on May 23, 2023 with the release of BluOS 3.20.52.

I'm guessing that the long-promised DLBC will come with BluOS 4.0?

It's been 3 years since DLBC was announced for NAD M10 V1/V2 and maybe other products too, so is BluOS 4.0 holding this up too?

@BlueSoundFan, I doubt BluOS 4.0 will change Dirac Live Bass Control availability for any current NAD devices. I have read that hardware limitations have prevented it from being implemented to date. However, the soon to be released NAD M66 will feature DLBC – and with any luck, Dirac Live Active Room Treatment!

@steadilyfred, where did you read the news about "hardware limitations" for DLBC, are you able to provide link?

My most recent email exchanges with NAD tech support didn't mention any "hardware limitation" so I assumed the delay was due to BluOS 4 not being rolled out yet.

Sorry, @BlueSoundFan. I should be careful not to start any uninformed rumors. What I read wasn't official. I recall it was speculation among some C 658 owners discussing digital headroom in the forum I follow. There was also discussion about how the issue might also be related to inter-sample clipping with the C 658 in certain situations.

With nearly four years passed since Dirac first announced DLBC for the M10 and C 658, I'm not optimistic we'll ever see it for these devices. Let's hope I'm wrong. 😉

@steadilyfred, thanks for posting the original news release. So it's been 4 years, not 3 years that I thought.

Wow, this makes it more doubtful that they will ever make it happen. But at least tech support from NAD that I corresponded with did not outright say they have given up, but he won't divulge when they will get it done either. Very frustrating!

Now with the constant delays of v4.0, it's just adding to the frustrations. I seriously don't know how other BluOS users take all these issues. I hope some solutions will materialize soon.

BluOS not compatible with usb xmos 2.0. Hoping 4.0 interface would happen. Then firmware packets. Rely on older DAC for now usb to bus usb. Optical or coaxial doesn't work for me. Use a Purist Audio Design Diamond Revision 30th Anniversary usb cable. Silky smooth.

This is a niche market with a pretty stagnant user base as far as numbers of participants. In addition the market is saturated with products of a similar price range [some cheaper] that do more and sound just as good. Pretty much anyone could dedicate an old phone to do what most all streamers do, so for many people its not a 'must have'. With the level of development BluOS has [which in many cases reflects budget] I don't see BluOS doing anything other that what its done in the past.

    "...stagnant user base..."

    "... market is saturated..."

@edward, I'd love to review that data for an article I'm writing. Is it public or proprietary info you're referring to?
