I would like to create multiple groups with the same speakers.
1: 2 pulse flex speakers playing stereo
2: Soundbar 2i en 2 pulse flex as a home cinema group
3: All speakers playing stereo
Could you please add this feature?
Grouping/ungrouping is no option.

I had some hopes for BluOS 4.0 to fix this freakin' 5 years old issue. Last nail in the coffin for Bluesound, I guess. At least on a personal level. Happy to communicate that experience whenever the chance arises.

I'm curious as to WHY Bluesound refuses to implement this?

Past explanations point to an impossibility to implement this based on the design of their system. Which is why there could be hope if this release is a major redesign…

...multiple groups with double speaker in it, is a "basic" function, this function is needed and important... Werner PS: every Server Software has this function !!!

@Thierry: Sorry to say, seems like all hope is gone after five years of nothing.
If the redesign would allow that, they would announced that but I think it's more of a design in redesign than a redo of the code to do this kind of changes.
Will see what one can program around using the api/http interface...
Can you group for e.g. a home theater group but still address individual speakers via roon?

@Tony W. can you at least share what you are doing with this topic instead of sharing you are reading it? It would give some comfort in at least understanding what progress you guys made on this heavy topic in the last period(s).

I bought two pulse flex 2i and the first thing I tried doing was to create multiple groups with them. I was shocked that it is not possible, specially after reading this 5 years old thread. I cannot fathom how this wasn’t set as the highest priority for the product development back then. It is such a simple ask. This feature is a deal breaker, I’m begging to put it at the top of the backlog.

I read somewhere that Sonos had a legal fight with Google over a patent on something similar. Perhaps Bluesound is afraid to comment based on fears of legal action. You could try to check that with Bluesound since it seems this thread has been marked Answered which I assume means they ignore it.

Maybe you're right with some legal issues but only if I would know I would have been able to patiently wait and sort that out knowing that it is not BS' fault really...
But I don't expect anything from this company any more :)

This was my first thing that came to my mind when buying two extra pulse flexes. After 5 years its not implemented... come on...

I bought 2 pulse M to sometimes function as rear speakers in a surround setting and sometimes as a individual stereo pair. Why is so hard to implement this in the app. I can ungroup and regroup in the app with a lot of clicks. Why is it so hard to program a function to do it in one click?

It’s not hard it’s probably some patent issue they are not transparent about. The lack of feedback is a strong indicator of that I believe

You closed my issue regarding speakers in multiple groups although a) previous reply to thos thread is 5 years ago and b) still no solution found. Here's my request:
I have seen multiple requests for supporting possibility to add the speakers to multiple groups, first already 6 years ago. Why are you unable to deliver it? I do not want to alter the groups depending of the need as I have group settings in place, e.g. volume adjustments of individual spekers. An further, it is just stupid. Think about the smart lights and creating new groups every time different combos are needed. C'mon, make this happen.

This shortcut let's you make a Home Theatre group (Pulse Soundbar, Powernode) with one button.
This can also be done with Pulse Flex as the rear speakers.The text fields in the shortcut need to be edited to suit your network/setup.
Apple Remove Home Theatre ShortcutThis shortcut removes the Home Theatre Group (Pulse Soundbar, Powernode) with one button. Allowing you to use the Powernode for stereo sound.
This can also be done with Pulse Flex as the rear/stereo speakers.
The text fields in the shortcut need to be edited to suit your network/setup.
It is also possible to create a stereo pair from Pulse Flex speakers with this method, Which is an easy way to switch between Home Theatre/Stereo. However the shortcut needs to be configured to un-make the Home Theatre group before creating the Stereo group (and vice versa).
I may make a website to keep the variations of this shortcut and instructions.
But I would much rather Bluesound or BluOS just implemented this...1 -
So i bought 2 pulse m and a soundbar pulse+
I just couldn't understand why i couldn't create different groups with the same speaker. Did a few factory resets, wired the speakers etc.i was 100% sure this was a feature. I found this thread wich started 6 years ago so i thought lets go to the last page were i can see the solution.it doesnt make sense that this isnt possible.

I am glad someone else is also wondering this. I created an own issue for it but it was removed as it was duplicate to this issue although nothing done for it in years. In fact I am so frustrated to the lack of this feature that I'm thinking to drop BlueSound and change to another brand.
This kind of custom grouping with any speakers - whether in another group or not - is not only nice to have. It is essential and I wonder why BlueSound is failing to this.

There is a patent regarding grouping of WiFi speakers held by Sharp. Possibly Bluesound won’t to pay for this or Nad is a direct competitor or something. It’s illogical to not implement this and illogical to not give a clear answer

It’s the one reason I’m not investing more in bluesound. I’d buy the new powernode if this was implemented.

Was going to buy 2 more pulse m when i move in my new house. Idea was having surround with soundbar and 2 rear speakers, 1 in the kitchen and 1 in the dining room. Then create different group.this seems the obvious way to go and 1 off the reasons i bought bluesound. My local hifi shop also didn't me inform me in the right way. Didn't come to mind that this couldn't be an option. Will be returning them wich is a shame because the sound is great. Sonos does have this option?

@Tony W from Blue Sound, in this thread, you’ve mentioned that the answer can be found here, but it seems customers have been searching for a solution for over six years. I’ve enjoyed (past) using your product, but it’s crucial to address their requests seriously. As others have also noted, the lack of proper grouping functionality is a strong reason some may reconsider purchasing or recommending your product.

Definitely ! Currently buying gear for a large house, I will not make the same mistake twice, so no Bluesound.
It is unfortunate, as the sound is good, but global UX is weak, and this type of functionality taking forever to be implemented is not consistent with the price of the hardware.

This is quick and handy when you need it but unfortunately we are unable to 'Favourite' a group at this time.
Fixed groups are different - these are permanently intended groups such as Stereo Pairs or home Theatre Setups and not designed to be in multiple groups at once as they are acting as a single Player; https://support.bluos.net/hc/en-us/articles/360000220107. Once placed in these configurations, they are not designed to be flipped around and moved but designed to act as a single functional virtual unit.
Our Product Development Team continues to look for alternatives but requires a significant redesign of decade-old architecture to do so. During our recent Developers Conference some time was spent on this very topic, both the benefits of doing it and the consequences it will bring to our current syncing technology.
We are aware of your requests but unfortunately this is one egg we have yet to crack.

I appreciate a real answer after 6 odd years. I think you should fix this just because of principle even if it means rewriting the lot and/or more or better resources. If you’re to compete you need Tesla level sw/hw integration not some sad VW-style solution from a decade ago. The sw is quite weak for bluesound and how much business is lost because of it? Hw is great but if a competitor had the same level of hardware and better software I would switch even for added cost

This refreshingly open and honest answer made me log back in after a long time. I have been criticizing your politics with these kind of of open questions, support of the community and in particular progress on this topic quite a bit so at least an honest answer is appreciated.So to summarize, you also agree on the desire to make this happen for the community regarding (fixed) groups but with current code you risk the quite good sync of the speaker group when implementing code that allows us to have speakers in multiple groups?
Well I sort of can understand that.
Going forward I do really wish to have such kind of transparency for more things and maybe have the transparency also on your product description or at least the manual for people to understand. Then we can all have an easier time to decide if we wan't to have the still good BluOS environment or flexible speaker groups from somewhere else and we all won't be in a place to be disappointed.
I would like to still urge you trying to balance the costs of development vs. competitors. If not now, maybe in future larger releases.

It’s the age old - we’ve always done it this way.
Bluesound need to let go of 10 year old architecture as its sub standard, not fluid and very clunky. I think it’s about time you redesign it frankly.The sound is so good but the software is a joke.
