Problem adding Local Share

I have a Mac laptop running Sonoma 14.2 and I am not able to add my Music folder as a Local Share. This is what I tried:
Settings --> Music Library --> Local Shares --> +
I type in "\\Apollo\Music". (I have also tried using "Browse" to get to the folder)
Then a box pops up that says "Adjust Folder Permissions" with a button that says "Authenticate". When I click that, it asks for my password, which I enter.
Next, it says "Configuring" and then 2 seconds later, I get the message "NOT COMPLETE, There is a problem adding this local share" and a popup that says "Share URL must be in the form \\Computer Name\Share"
I have adjusted the permissions on all of the music related folders. Nothing works. Please help.

Try it with the ip address (192.168.xxx.yyy) of your share: \\192.168.xxx.yyy\Music

I tried it. Same exactly same result.

Some googling shows there are problems with SMB on Apple. If your Bluesound gear is up to date, it should support SMB ver 3.0. So that couldn't be the culprit and I guess Apple no longer supports ver 1.0 , which had safety issues.
The best solution by far will be the use of a NAS.
Bluesound support can probably help you, best send a request through the app at the time the error occurs.
The log that is attached to the request will give some info about the cause.

Hello There, have you solved your problem now? I've bought a Node 2 and i have the same problem when trying to share my music folder in BluOs App. I've tried every possibility given in the bluOs guide (network file sharing and local file sharing), it seems that the BluOs App can't see the path to the folder.
Otherwise is it possible to disable SMB on the Mac?

On the Mac, is the hard drive internal or external? If external what is it’s format (check in Diskutil)

Same problem here, as described in the initial text.
Sonoma 14.4.1, MacBook Pro, BluOS Controller 4.2.1 installed, local share on internal hard drive. Path of form \\gseMBP\Music --> same error as above.
Just purchased my first Bluesound speakers today to get rid of my Sonos. Local music library (local share) not working could be a show stopper.
Help/fix appreciated, thank you!

Hi Gerhard, this is a community forum so if you are having trouble it’s best to use the BluOS App and “send support request” after trying to add a share.

Haven't heard back from Support yet, but OK, it's the weekend. But I followed your link. Assume I handled all critical aspects on my Mac:
File Sharing, SMB, allowed BluOS controller thru file vault, etc. Still no success.
Tried all kinds of path variations: \\, //, long path, short path, computer name or IP, etc.
My conclusion for now: BluOS is a bit buggy. E.g. I read both PDFs linked from the URL you gave me. OK, they refer to Ventura OS and we're at Sonoma meanwhile. But is this the issue?
Weird that Bluesound contradicts itself. The controller apps insist of paths of type:
\\computer\folder
For network or local shares. However, even in the screenshot in the PDF "Local File Sharing - macOS Ventura.pdf" it shows a path (for a local share) entered as follows:
/users/xxx/Documents/Music
Forward slashes, check the PDF, if you like.
So I tried as shown but the controller refuses to accept forward slashes and insists on \\ etc..
But maybe, in the current version of the app, this is just due to a logical check on the text field, that simply creates an error when / are used. But the path would actually work if this error check would not kick in? Just guessing, will have to wait for support to respond.

A community member that successfully added local or network shares to his system can help! They must exist, or not?
My setup is quite simple. Components:
MacBook Pro M1, Sonoma 14.4.1, shared folder path "/Users/gse/Music" or - in theory - "\\gseMBP\Music" (short version) or "\\gseMBP\Users\gse\Music" (long version).
Controller installed on my Mac (BluOS Controller 4.2.1), on an iPhone (4.2.3) and on an Android tablet (4.2.10). I tried adding local or network shares from all - all fail and show the same error.

I have and use a M1 Mac Mini but without any issues, in previous threads it’s normally a permission issue or path not correct. If you have another computer you can browse the network and see if you can connect to the share on you MacBook.
I have never used the Bluesound tools (BluOS App) to add a share and never from the Apple Music / iTunes directory as I have a separate FLAC directory with my music. Also have a “music” user with full read write access for the share.
Simple things like rebooting the router and the MacBook are quick things to try but suspect you will have to wait for support.

Thanks Seppi. So just out of interest, what's the string (syntax) you entered in the path field?
Besides than, I tested with a folder that is not related to iTunes or such. Just a standard folder containing music files. This folder is shared via file share, all users (including "everyone") have R&W permissions, SMB is enabled, etc. I pretty much followed the instructions in the PDF (Network File Sharing - macOS Ventura.pdf) 1:1.
The only thing I added (since on my Mac File Vault is turned on and the PDF does not mention File Vault): I added the BluOS app to the list of apps with full disk access (this is identical to how I got the music library with my Sonos app working).
However, does not work.
What could help me would be, if you would create a folder on your Mac and add it as either a network or a local share, best following the instructions in those two PDFs. And then, if it works on your side, we might be able to identify the differences.
HOWEVER: It's Sunday and do not hesitate to NOT invest additional time in this!!
BTW, I can access the share containing the music from my MacMini via Finder when connecting with the Powerbook's admin user account. However, I just get to the folder level but cannot open it. Connecting to the share as guest does not work at all. So yes, a permission issue seems likely. Nevertheless, would be interesting to see whether you run into the same, with a test share...

Simple path… very old school here and use lowercase for everything and never anything other than alphanumeric.
As I said I just create shares manually and don’t follow any instructions 😂

To anyone interested:
I just documented my trials to add network and/or local share on my Mac in quite some detail (30 screenshots turned into a PDF document). I made the document available to BS support (got a ticket).
If anyone else is having similar issues or anyone got the feeling he could probably help fixing it, I could send the PDF...

Gosh, think I got it.
Just for the fun of it I made a copy of my share test folder on the first level of my MacBooks HD. So instead of this:
/Users/gse/Documents/testmusic
I set it up like this:
/Users/gse/testmusic2
The path:
\\gsembp\testmusic2
worked, while the path
\\gsembp\documents\testmusic
did not.
So I probably just missed the memo, that "first level" is a requirement? Or I just missed the memo, that a parent folder (as Documents in my case) has to be shared as well. I did not do so, since it is not my intention to share all my docs. The folder "testmusic" in "Documents" showed up via network access on my Mac Mini though, so I thought it should be visible for BluOS as well.
But anyways, looks I'm set, finally!
