Sound cutting out and periodic loss of surround channels after upgrading to 4.0

Hello Geoff, thanks for your answer. I still have a couple of days to decide. Today I tried to move from Nvidia shield to Xbox series x (using plex with all proper settings) but the behavior is the same.

Before returning it to Amazon I want to give a try to the Arc workaround (excluding eArc from TV). That’s because I need to take into consideration the following aspects:

    - I need a wireless soundbar + sub + rear (no room for traditional HT)
    - I had a look around and every wireless 5.1 environment is suffering with dropouts/clipping (Sonos, Sony, Bose, etc). So if returning I will still be lost in what to choose as replacement
    - I watch 99% of material for what standard Arc will be enough
    - Sound quality and virtual surround of the BS HT is great for what are my expectations

If the issue is really on the eArc/Arc coming from TV to the soundbar why don’t try to split the HDMI out of the player in to two HDMI, one going straight to the soundbar and the other going straight to the TV? In that case we should be able to bypass the eArc compatibility issue, correct? Did anyone try to follow this approach?

I reported this over a year ago and here we are still.

It does seem to be down to atmos content as earc seems ok on dolby digital.

The whole point of soundbar+ is for atmos.

I have pretty much given up on this with BS now and use it in standalone as they clearly dont give 2 shts about it.

I actually have the issue reproducing AAC 2.0 in eArc. Tonight I will test with Arc. Very disappointing but unfortunately competitors don’t seem to outstand…

I tried an hdmi splitter and it didn’t work for me but give it a try. The only thing that worked for me was Ethernet to every speaker, which is silly but it worked, then I moved and tried it without Ethernet and living with dropouts until I see if plugging it all in again works. Haven’t done it yet because the fiber installer says that their router doesnt play nice with others

Thanks for the update. Tonight I tried a E-Ac3 movie and both with eArc and Arc I experienced clipping and audio dropouts. Tomorrow I will return the bundle. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this discussion, very helpful in making the right decision

I am confident the fix will be provided, so I will not be changing to other brands, as the sound is amazing. Yes, it's annoying, but can live with it.

Hi Everyone, I just applied the firmware update 8.17 and 1 hour into the movie, and no drop so far.  Anyone else tried it yet?

Update: I spoke too soon. Drop is still happening :(  Anyone else tried it?

I updated yesterday and I lost the surround channels watching a show on apple tv+ in atmos.

    Happened within an hour.

    happened to me again today.

Is anyone at bluesound looking at this?

Has been going on for over a year.

    Hey James,
It's been happening to me since my last post. Earc and arc it doesn't matter rears cut out 15 to 40 mins.

Still happening- the last firmware update did not address this issue.

Same problems here. Soundbar+ drops random the connection to 2x Pulse M and sub. Tried everything posted here but unfortunately no improvements so far. I agree that this is something that BlueSound has to fix. Before this set I had Samsung and the wireless speaker connections never dropped.

I guess I somehow found a fix for the dropouts of the rears in the home theatre group. In my router settings I assigned static IP addresses to each player separately, ie four for the four devices in the group.
I didn't have a single dropout since then. Please give it a try and report back here.

    PS

I watched Netflix for hours with no dropouts for 2 weeks. It must have done something for the better.

My devices are all hardwired but previously dropouts had still happened.

How would static addresses work when Bluesound creates a Home Theater group using WiFi Direct Connect that creates a separate network and changes the IP addresses?   Does that require setting up DHCP instead?  Is there a way to turn of the Wifi Direct Connect.

I have 2 nearby rooms in an open floorplan both with a Soundbar+ and 2 Pulse Ms as rear speakers for home theater use with TVs in each room, plus one Sub connected to one of the soundbars. I use Multi-Player groups so I can listen to music across the speakers.

    My ongoing unresolved issues are:

    1) I have only been using the 4 Pulse Ms together since every time I add the Soundbar+s, they get way out of sync with the Pulse Ms which all stay in sync.  The Pulse Ms are all wireless and need to be, and I have tried the Soundbar+s both wired and wireless to no effect.

    2) If I every setup a Home Theater Group in either room, that can work but when I break that down to go back to a Multi-Player fixed group top listen to music, BlueOS will not release/change all of the player IP addresses back to IP address on my network and I lose access to those players until I temp hard wire them by moving them to my router to reprogram Wifi settings.  Super annoying and time consuming, so I just never setup Home Theater Groups anymore, can't do Atmos and better surround sound, and just use the Soundbar+s for TV watching and use the Pulse Ms for music.   Will applying DHCP fix this?   Or is there a way to turn off Wifi Direct Connect and use static IPs?

    Appreciate any suggestions

I've been dealing with this issue for years, static ips don't work wirelessly, I have a Node for a patio system that also looses sync with the indoor theater system, its something with the soundbar. Also had Bluesound remotely check my network, no resolve. Hopefully a fix will come.

This has been going on for years here too. They'll blame your network, tell you to use fixed ip adresses, hardwire your equipment, etc. Well, I've done that but still experience problems, speakers getting out of sync, loss of rear channels, etc.

And now, after a recent update, when i'm watching a movie that has a low volume scene for a while, I also loose the rears. Untill i turn off and turn on the sub+ in the app, then everything is back to 'normal'. Normal for Bluesound standards because this system just requires manual intervention almost daily.

Problem is, when I sell all this equipment I can imagine the potential buyer complaining that this hardware is faulty when he/she notices this too. And yes, I also think that this hardware is faulty. Either the soundbar or the sub, or the combination of the two. I'm too tired to troubleshoot this anymore. I'll rather wait for a great competitor and just put all this stuff in the trash.

And since 4.0 I don't think Bluesound did release a firmware with any fixes/enhancements for the soundbar. They'll probably release a new version of the soundbar and abandon the current one. Problem solved.

    It's a shame.

Bodi, if new generation is released and no firmware update fix is provided- then they need to have a buy-back program incentive for us to get a large credit for updating to the new ones, no?

Mine are all wired in and have tested with fixed IP's again yesterday.

Rears cut out after 30 - 40 mins.

Luckily, support is aware, can reproduce and will release a future update to fix this lol. This will never be fixed people!

they have been aware for over 12 months tho.

I have the same issue as the author has posted. At first I thought that blue sound earc simply could not keep up atmos truhd 7.1. It is a lot of data and I thought its internal decoder simply could not decode it fast enough. Not the case. Here is how I came to this conclusion. I deleted my home theater group, leaving just the soundbar. And now it works perfectly no cutting out, no volume drops, etc. I thought ok, let’s hardwire subwoofer and connect surrounds via Ethernet. Nope still same issue. Ok. Let’s get rid of surrounds. That worked too as long as the subwoofer is hardwired. If you switch subwoofer to Ethernet, it is lagging again. I tried enabling compressed audio for the group. Did not help btw. Anyways. I don’t believe this is something bluesoind will ever fix. I am going to dump my whole bluesoind setup and get either sound processor with multi-channel amp or plain av receiver. Wireless home theater that can play lossless Dolby sound is a pipe dream at the moment.

Must admit, I may consider switching to the brand new Nakamichi Shockwafe 11.2.6 if Bluesound does not release a fix soon.

But don't feel right to sell the current system to anyone if they think they will have a full surround sound. so just dump it?

Yes reselling bluesound does present a moral dilemma, because its management and marketing are making claims that are fundamentally not true and we know it. I would be honest with the potential buyer. And emphasize that it can play compressed Dolby Atmos without problems. Most streaming services today stream compressed audio only anyways. Only users with Kaleidescape, plex or Blue ray disks have access to lossless content like true hd, etc. So my guess for an average streaming content user, this will not be an issue.

Yes, still waiting for a firmware update. The support told me they would have their hands on it but weren't given any timelines by the developer teams.
My quick fix with static IPs didn't last very long...

    Hi Konrad

With the release of BluOS 4.10.11 this week, please try disabling Spatial Audio to test if this improves reliability. Here's how; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/articles/31636413686295

    Hi Tony.
Unfortunately disabling spatial audio didn't help avoiding dropouts of the rears.
Actually, after deactivation the sound became surprisingly underwhelming and boring, so this solution wouldn't be acceptable in my full fledged home theatre.

I believe after around 12 to 18 months this has finally been fixed for me using soundbar+ with powernode rears :0)

please do not break it again.

  • Konrad Kriegel

    @James Connor
So you mean you bought a power node and connected it with the rears to avoid dropouts? Is that still a home theatre group then?
If that's the only remedy it's really a pity and shame if we have to buy a new device for a function that we already should have.

    Hi @Konrad Kriegel

I didn't buy the powernode to avoid dropouts :0)

I have 2 uses for the powernode, one is I use it standalone for stereo music, and 2 I use it for surround duties in a home theatre group.

I break and recreate the group depending on if I want music or movies.

This used to work fine until 12 + months ago when BS broke the software with an update.

It seems for me it is now finally fixed with the latest update.

I have the powernode wired by ehthernet, and so is the soundbar+.

I had previously tried things like static IP's which I still have in place, this may or may not help.

I am finally enjoying my system again after 12+ months of frustration, after all it is far from cheap.

Seems to be working now (EARC), the only issue I have is now is I have to disable spatial sound every time I want my patio system (Node) to stay in sync with my indoor system (soundbar with 2 flexi theater group) otherwise it looses sync and just cuts out.
