Tips when running Anti-Virus Software

BluOS utilizes Windows SMB sharing, that operates based on the following structure:

\\Network Path Name\FolderName

Typically, there is no need for additional configurations when establishing File Sharing. However, if the computer's antivirus software modifies settings or obstructs content, you may need to implement some alterations.

Kaspersky Antivirus

• Trusted Network – Kaspersky networks can be categorized as Public, Local, or Trusted. To enable SMB sharing in Kaspersky, the network must be designated as either Local or Trusted.
• Blocking of Local UDP & TCP – By default, the Firewall setting in Kaspersky configures the Packet Rules for local UDP and TCP to Block. Changing the permissions to Allow for local UDP and TCP reestablishes share discovery access for BluOS.
  Note: The placement and naming convention for TCP/UDP blocking options may vary depending on the version of Kaspersky or the operating system. However, you can consistently find them as sub-options within the Firewall menu.
• SMB Blocking by Anti-Hacker – In previous iterations of Kaspersky's Anti-Hacker software, SMB sharing was automatically marked as a potential threat.
• Windows Modifications – Kaspersky might alter the default Windows configuration established by BluOS Windows Sharing on your computer. Review and verify these settings within the file sharing process.

Avast 

• Unconfigured File Sharing – Under the firewall settings of Avast, the option to allow local sharing may not be enabled and instead set to Not Configured. You can find this option under Firewall > Settings > System Rules. Selecting the local sharing options to Allow enables BluOS to view files from the computer. Reboot the computer after applying this change.

Norton 360

• Enabling Outgoing SMB Traffic – In the Firewall Settings, under Traffic Rules, the outgoing SMB traffic is set to Block by default. Check if any Windows SMB or 2000 SMB traffic is set to Block and change it to Allow.

For all antivirus programs, password-protected sharing is established on Windows 8 computers. You should disable this option for the applicable network type (Home, Work, Public, Private, or All Networks) from the Advanced Sharing Settings under the Network and Sharing Center.

McAfee Personal Firewall

• Under Ports and System Services, select port 445. Edit this port and select PCs in Work and Home Networks only
• Enable UDP tracking in Advanced Settings
• Add the IP address of the Bluesound Player in network connections

Windows Defender Firewall

Windows Defender Firewall may block required traffic for File sharing.

Perform the following steps to resolve this issue:

1. In the search box next to the Start button on the taskbar, type windows defender firewall.
2. Select Windows Defender Firewall from the list of results
3. In the left pane, select Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.
4. Select Change settings in the upper-right corner.
5. Enter the required admin credentials.
6. Select File and Printer Sharing and select all corresponding checkboxes under Domain, Private, and Public.
7. Select File and Printer Sharing over SMBDirect and select all corresponding checkboxes under Domain, Private, and Public.
8. Select OK.
