Apologies if I missed this in previous posts, I searched but did not find the answer. And testing my system doesn't give me a definitive answer. It's useful for me to know this for my PC gaming audio setup. Thanks for the help.

What does a Home Theater Group (which is 4.1) do with the Dolby center channel sounds? Is the center channel ignored/dropped? Or is the center channel synthesized into the front L/R?

  The centre channel is mixed in and redistributed in a 4.1 setup as per DOLBY standards. You do not lose the centre channel. If you did, you would generally lose most of the movie or game dialogue.
