Can Node N130 drive Pulse Flex2i as rear speakers?

hello,

I'm trying to figure out if the Node N130 connected to active front speakers can drive the Pulse Flex2i as rear speakers too? (for a surround setup)

I understand that grouping would be necessary for this but from the page below it looks as if only the Powernode with HDMI can do this? if so, I don't understand why.
