When do Audio settings change?

I am trying to adjust audio settings like balance, output mode and volume limit. I can make adjustments in the menu but I don’t notice any changes in the sound. Do changes occur immediately or do I need to exit the menu?

  Audio Settings should happen in real time

  You haven't said what hardware you're using, but on the NAD M33 it takes place instantly in real time.
