Powernode - Watts per channel at 6 ohms
AnsweredHi - just wanted to clarify what the watts per channel is with 6 ohm speakers? I know the latest Powernode is rated at 80 wpc at 8 ohms and normally this would mean around 120 wpc at 6 ohms. However, someone said that with the modern Class D amplifiers pump out the same power per channel whatever the ohms? So therefore is it 80 wpc at 6 ohms too?

You are right about class D normally producing the same power into whatever load, however in the POWERNODE it is close to 160 watts per Chanel with 4 Ohm speakers so you are correct… unless Bluesound come along and correct us both 😁
I have a POWERNODE connected to some 86 dB sensitive speakers which are 6 Ohm rated and you can crank them up to ridiculously loud levels.

Thanks Seppi. It will be interesting to hear what Bluesound say on that.
Likewise with my 91 dB sensitive speakers, also at 6 ohms, I can get to neighbour complaint levels too! I'm a bit of a novice on the technical measures so don't really know if 91dB is good or not but I like what I hear!

91 dB is quite sensitive, I built some horn based speakers years ago and they were 96dB and a 10w amplifier is all I ever needed at the time.
