Blinking Blue LED means the POWERNODE has been put into mute mode, by any chance do you have a Sony TV as they seem to send a mute signal when turning off.

Yeah, I get the same issue on Powernode 2i and Sony XR-65A80J (which is a relatively recent mode OLED). Are we saying that the mute signal when turning off is non-standard and this is therefore a Sony issue?

I also get frequent 'communication failure' errors when switching from TV speakers to the Powernode connected via ARC. It eventually works (sometimes I have to restart both devices) but it's quite annoying. I assumed it's my setup but I am wondering whether this is a more widespread issue with Sony TVs?

I have a Philips OLED804 television, about three years old. So it is noy only related to Sony. Concur with Alex, it is annoying.

Here is a full list of Bluesound Blink Codes; https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/articles/200271976

Your Bluesound POWERNODE is being muted. Check the source

Yes, we understand that and the answer to Sander's original question was provided by Seppi's comment. The follow-on question though is whether the source sending the mute signal is as per ARC standby command spec OR an issue with the source's implementation? We have confirmed here that at least two brands (Sony and Philips) are setting devices into mute state. What is the Bluesound position on this? Although not a huge issue it is annoying as every time one switches from watching TV to listening to music the volume has to be re-adjusted. And Sander gets upset because the light starts blinking :)).

Looking into this a bit more, it's normal behaviour according to Sony - The home theater or sound bar system automatically mutes or shows a muting message. | Sony USA

Well, not reallu upset, I just do not want my system to die within a few years as it is muted 24/7. If it does not harm at all I am fine woth it (althoigh I think it is bug).

Is there any chance this might be handled a bit more gracefully?

I too have a Sony XR-65A80J with a Node connected via eARC and am experiencing the same blinking blue light issue when I turn the tv off.

Yes, it’s annoying to see a blinking light, but when I turn the TV back on I’ve been experiencing a lot of volume (sounds muffled and very low) and stereo (only coming out of one speaker) issues.

    This sounds like a bug.

Hi Conrad - SONY TVs send a mute signal when all other brands send a null signal when going to sleep via CEC. please contact SONY to look into power-saving options when your TV goes into standby.

    Hi Tony,

I appreciate the feedback and prompt response! I'm less concerned about SONY TVs sending a mute signal and more concerned about how the Node recovers from that.

As I mentioned, it’s annoying to see a blinking blue light, but that's not really my problem. I'm having consistent and reproducible issues when I turn the TV back on. I’ve experienced audio being muffled, extremely quiet, not in stereo, or no sound at all, with no impact from the volume being turned up or down. The only solution I've found is to reboot the Node via the app.

    • GIVEN I have a Node muted automatically from turning off my SONY TV
    • WHEN I turn the SONY TV back on
    • AND an audio signal is delivered to the Node
    • THEN I should be able to hear proper audio signals
    • AND I should be able to raise or lower the volume as necessary
