Auto Connect to TV sound after listening to music
AnsweredHi guys, I have a 2021 Sony LED TV connected via eARC to a Soundbar +. After a session listening to music through spotify or tidal I then want the soundbar to automatically pick up the tv sound when switching the tv on. Is this something that should be happening? I kind of thought thats what eARC was all about but it seems I have to go into the Bluesound app and manually engage the HDMI for the soundbar before it picks up TV sound.
Hope that makes sense?

Hi Seppi, well thats embarrassing I could have sworn both my soundbars had auto sense switched on but it was only the one in the back room! Sorry to waste your time and thank you for your help :)

Actually no sorry even with Auto Sense switched on it still doesnt pick up the tv audio automatically. Any ideas?

There's a known problem with Sony TV's and using the Auto-Sense feature. In my case, when streaming music, the sound will cut-out occasionally because the Sony TV keeps sending out a false signal for some reason. Sony TV's also have another issue in that they send a CEC "mute" command via the eARC HDMI connection to your speakers when you shutoff the TV. I haven't found a solution to either of these seemingly minor issues, and Bluesound has told me that it's really a Sony issue.

Thanks Michael, so nowhere else to go with this while I still have a Sony TV? Cant see this being an issue with Sonos soundbars Im sure Sony would fix it if there was a known issue. Bit frustrating

Well, apparently, in defense of our friends at Bluesound, the Sonos speakers also have a similar problem with the CEC "mute" command issue. Have a look:
As for the Auto-Sense feature for Sonos and Sony TV's, I haven't seen a lot about this from the Sonos community, but I did find this, which appears similar to what we see with the Bluesound speakers and Sony TV's:

I've also repeatedly heard that Sony was coming out with a firmware update to address the Auto-Sense issue, but after a couple of firmware updates on my two Sony TV's, I haven't see anything that corrects this issue as yet.

Hi! I have the same issue with my Sony TV. Both with auto sence and mute. Any solutions on this problem yet?

See if there is any firmware updates for your Sony TV available, it does appear to be an issue with some Sony TVs.

Hi!
I have a Sony 77A80J TV. And there are no firmware updates for the Sony TV.

Both the Auto Sence function and that the sound is muted is a big problem for me.

You could log a support ticket with Bluesound so they can advise you further, if you use the BluOS app it also sends the logs so do this after turning on the TV.

I've already created a support ticket for this, and Bluesound indicated that there's nothing they can do about it as the function is controlled by Sony themselves and probably just not implemented correctly to support an Auto-Sense capability.

I will. Thank you.

Hmm... that is not good at all. Think I need to send this back then. If it doesn't work.

Contact support to make sure it’s the same issues as well as your TV dealer / Sony as you might be in the same with other manufacturers hardware.
If it’s just a case of not switching then you can configure a preset to switch to the HDMI input, then trigger the preset with a IR remote- such as an unused button on the TV remote or failing that the Bluesound RC1 remote control.

Thanks for your help.
But this is the entire use case with eARC. I shall not need to push and program a button on my remote.
And I use the Apple Remote that uses bluetooth. So there are no IR to program.
I previously had a Sonos Arc and there were no problem with eARC and the Sony TV.

So for me, it's not a big deal, but a minor PITA. I simply have to select "HDMI input" that I setup in the Bluesound app menu when I'm done listening to music in my home theatre setup, and that works fine. It'd just be better if it "auto-switched" like it should when the Sony TV comes on, that's all. And because of this, I then also shut-off the Auto-Sense function in the BlueOS app beforehand.

The Auto-Sense function doesn't work anyway. But even if I turn it off. The soundbar mutes when I turn off the TV,

Yes, you're right about that as well! My whole home theatre setup with the Pulse Soundbar +, 2 pulse flex speakers and the Pulse Sub + all go into mute mode when I shutoff the Sony TV. Again, it's a minor PITA that I simply have to note the pulse flex speakers are flashing blue to tell me they're muted, so when I play music again, I have to move the slider to the right to listen. This is also part of the same problem with Sony TV's from what I understand from the Bluesound support folks.
