New NAS?
Bit of a back story ... prior to becoming a Bluesound user, in fact when I first ventured into streaming, I stored all my music on a Vortexbox NAS (which had Logitech Media Server pre-loaded) and backed the files up on a Seagate EHD. The Vortexbox is no longer functioning as a streamer, but happily I can still use it as a back-up (if I hang onto it). After it malfunctioned I simply connected the EHD to my router and the Bluesound app found my files and I don't detect any difference between the EHD and the VB in playback.
My question is whether I can rely on the EHD for long-term playback? I don't know of any reason why I can't, but I'm a technophobe and when I look at the EHD it just looks like nothing more than a temporary fix - a band-aid which won't last.
Is it OK to rely on the EHD or should I seek a VB replacement? If the latter, I very rarely rips CDs these days (which was one of the uses of the VB) and if needs be in future I can rip them directly to the EHD - so I don't think I need much more than reliable storage. So should I be looking at something more 'robust' than the EHD (given that I will continue to back up my files)?
Also, if anyone has read this far, my laptop would detect the VB and I could transfer files from laptop to VB very simply. With the EHD connected to the router, my laptop can't see it :-( Might anyone know why? A tiny problem, but if there's a quick fix ....
TIA,
John
