Unable to back up music library
AnsweredWe have been doing incremental backups of our Vault 2i music library, which is about 30% full. We are using a Sandisk 2 TB Extreme Portable SSD purchased 6 months ago. Today we tried doing another backup, but we are getting the message "No disk drive is connected". Several times we have re-connected the drive, changed cables, and re-booted both the vault and the phone, but still get the same message. Does this mean our Sandisk SSD is defective? How do we check it? Thanks. Sherry

Hi Sherry
Sorry I missed this post earlier - I am sorry to report we are investigating an issue with The Vault Back Up utility not recognizing attached drives in the latest update BluOS 3.18.7 - We are aware of the issue. We hope to release a software update in the coming days to resolve this.
We apologise for the inconvenience.

Thank you. This was very helpful to us.

Thinking that our San Disc SSD was defective, we purchased a new 2 TB Samsung T7 SSD external hard drive. Now when we go to the Bluos App we get a message saying "USB device inserted". Then going to Settings to Music Library to Back Up Music Library, we get the message "no disc drive is connected." We now suspect the problem could be in our Vault 2i. What do we do next? Are we missing something?

We powered the Vault off for 15 minutes and after starting it up again and connecting the Samsung we got the same messages as before ("USB device inserted" and "no disc drive is connected.") We then removed the Samsung and connected the San Disk and the message was "USB device removed." When we tried to back up our music library on the San Disk, it said "no disc drive connected."
Apparently the Vault recognizes when the Samsung is connected, but does not recognize it as a disc drive when we try to back up our music library. It doesn't recognize the San Disk at all.

Yes, the computer recognizes the Samsung. When I tried the San Disk on the computer, it didn't recognize it; I couldn't access it at all.

I also experienced the back-up issue on my Vault 2 and purchased a new portable hard drive for £79.99 to fix the problem, only to learn eventually that there is a bug in the latest release of BluOS and that my old portable hard drive is probably fine.
Not happy!
I suggested to Bluesound that they should consider rolling back the software but they don't think that they can, so we'll all have to wait until a properly tested new release becomes available. In the meantime, I have had to back my Vault up across the LAN, which was a real pain to set up and which took around 20 hours.
Doubly not happy.
I just hope that Bluesound get their testing sorted out.

I've now installed BluOS 3.18.9, which is intended to fix the back-up issue, however I had to cancel an attempt to perform a back-up using my normal 4TB portable hard drive since the estimated completion time kept rising.
I cancelled the back-up when the estimate hit 173 hours.
I've also contacted BluOS support and await a response.
Has anyone else tried to perform a back-up using 3.18.9?

Hi Ian,
I see your ticket. Please continue to work with our support team member with fixing/figuring out your issue.

We installed the BluOS 3.18.9 and have successfully backed up our Music Library. As a matter of fact, we backed up our library on all three of the external hard drives ~ the Sandisk SSD, the one we thought was dead, the Samsung T7 SSD we purchased to replace it, and the Seagate mechanical drive. We successfully backed up all three hard drives in about 24 hours each with approximately 30% of used hard drive. My husband never wants to spend that much time ripping CDs, so we are taking no chances! Thanks, BluOS, for fixing this problem.

Good to know. Many thanks for sharing this.
According to Bluesound, it seems that my problem might be related to the external drive that I have been using.
It's possible that it requires more power than the Vault 2's USB socket can provide.
Bluesound have suggested that I obtain an adaptor to effectively connect the drive to both USB sockets, which would double the power.
Most adapters, however, allow multiple devices to share a single USB socket, which is the other way around.
I'll keep looking, however.
