Rocker buttons don't change volume outside app

I cant change the volume using my Pixel 5 rocker side buttons unless I'm in the BlueOS app. The 'media volume' changes but this does not change the output level from my NAD C658

Would be nice to change the volume whilst using other apps

Please help
