There are a number of reasons why we favour SMB (Windows File Sharing) over UPnP/DLNA

    • SMB is more stable and is a onetime connection – it does not require recreating at every boot
    • SMB takes less network bandwidth so creates less jitter and timing issues when grouping multiple players never mind when receiving from the server
    • SMB does not require special 3rd party software and is native to Windows, macOS and all Network Attached Storage devices (as Windows File Sharing). It also works with Linux if SAMBA is enabled
    • DLNA does not let us build a local library database of music so you can;
      • Display by Artist, Album, Song
      • Sort by alphabetical or release date
      • Filter on CD, HR or MQA content
      • Provide visual cover art quickly and dynamically
      • Make it searchable to easily locate what you want on large libraries

Your dealer lied to you. No DLNA on the Node.

Hello Jörg  thank you for answer.

Could you take more time to complete with my previous remarks :
    - Why Airplay is working from an apple device and not from my SAMSUNG or ASUS PC ?
I can see the NODE in the device list for broadcast
    - Why do NODE is visible in the device list for broadcast, if transmission cannot be executed ?
    - Can it be a compatibility with DS AUDIO software from SYNOLOGY ?
    And my last question
    - Is it possible to broadcast from other software apart from BluOS ?  Or only BluOS is allowed.

Sorry, Philippe, I can't answer your questions. I was just as disillusioned as you when I discovered that the Node has no DLNA functionality, although a quick Google search reveals the fact immediately.

The BluOS controller is ok for now, but as soon as I find a better alternative to the Node, I shall jump ship.

    @Tony W.

May I object to your explanations:

    a) All the advantages of SMB are perfectly ok, but that does not prevent you from building a DLNA server into the Node. Why not attach the harddrive share via SMB and control the Node by DLNA? That would open the Node to a variety of DLNA ready apps (like Kazoo, Bubble etc.) I don't want to be rude, but the BluOS controller is crap by any means.

    b) Why would DLNA prevent you from building a library? I had an Aries Mini before the Node and it had DLNA and a music library. It was quite disappointing to learn that the Node has no DLNA capabilities. It is like building a car that can't drive on highways.

    Regards Jörg

    Hello

Thank you PSM Tony for your answer/help, i can understand your choice for system architecture and efficiency objectives but (as explain harshly by tony) these choices can be a limitation/frustration for customer searching most versatility and compatibility on their systems.

Anyway, BluOS and Bluesound works well, even if I get some bugs in library display and play back (the song seen in the search list and selected for playback is not the right sended in the Play Queue), I need to use the app more in order to identify what are missing functionalities.

To bypass difficulties to playback easily I used Bluetooth, but my equipments not being Aptx sound is poor.

New question: Is it possible to read a CD install on my computer and launch the playback directly from the BluOS app ?
I followed the tuto [shares Network : \\MyPCname\G] + [authorize sharing from W10 on G: drive] it seem accepted by BluOS but list of files are not displayed, PC CD player do not run. If function is available I will search more what works wrong.

Hi Garino - that will not work as music tracks on a CD are not the same as digital music file formats therefore cannot be indexed. Why not simply create 16/44 FLAC files from those CDs as a one-time rip and store them in the Music Library - the ease of never having to get off the couch again to access all your CDs is the experience we are going for.

HI Tony - I was dreading this answer !
What you propose is what i do once i decide to store the CDs in my NAS.
But before doing that I usually test and listen to the song album to decide or select song i will kept, extracting in advance is time consuming + less ergonomyc for my purpose + require to Rebuild Index Library, not really practical just to have an idea about album.

I will do that with Bluetooth for now.

    Thank's for rapid answer.

I know it sounds old fashioned, but why don't you use a CD player to evaluate CDs before converting them to FLAC?

Hi Jörg, you know i'm an old fashion guy ! and i use CD players, but the player and WIFI system is far away (7 meters) from my desk office and i would prefer listening a batch of CD's from this place. Technology makes us lazy !! ah ah ah

I'm lazy too, that's why I use EAC to convert my CD collection to FLAC.

EAC converts a CD with a single click, if configured properly. Have you tried it?

  • GARINO

Do not know EAC ? i use WMP basically to convert, maybe not the best solution.

EAC is not free (30€) which offer free updates ! but charge again in case of new version, if i understand well.

i have to try it, functionalities seem complete with improvement in ripping job.
    Thank you

EAC is free for non-commercial use. I have been using it for the last 20 years.

EAC = Exact Audio Copy, just to be sure we're talking about the same thing.
