Node - 12v trigger while using USB output

I've got my Node connected to my preamp/DAC via the USB output, and it works and sounds amazing. However, I haven't been able to get the 12v trigger to wake up the preamp. 

I know the other digital and analog outputs of the Node are deactivated with the USB output is connected. Is the 12v trigger output also deactivated?

Is there any way that I could test whether the problem is with the 12v trigger on my Node the 12v trigger input of my preamp (an Anthem STR preamp)?

  Hi Nate.  Are you sure there is a TRIGGER IN on the preamp?  The backplane I look at  for that unit shows TRIGGER OUT and an IR IN.
