Node Gen.3 (N130) digital outputs never sleep.
Answered
Hi, support team! Hi, colleagues!
I see the conceptual problem with my Node N130: its digital outputs never sleep.
I've read many times about "Network standby mode" that should be implemented automatically after 15 minutes of idle. It's a good concept and I join it. But there is a problem: digital outputs never sleep - neither Coaxial, nor optical Toslink. Neither after 15 minutes, nor after hours and days. Never!
I don't want to say Node N130 never falls into "Network standby mode" and I don't know which circuits should be powered down in this sleep mode, but the fact is digital outputs are always on. One can ensure it even by bare eye by looking at a red glow from the optical port on the rear panel, not to mention that activity is clearly visible on the connected devices.
I fulfilled all the demands:
1. Factory reset.
2. BlueTooth in manual mode.
3. Clear the playback queue.
4. No network shares (even not configured previously).
5. No connections to input (AUX or Optical)
6. Not using the BluOS controller.
Initially I did think that it's a hardware-related issue.
However the optical and coaxial interfaces can be switched off right on the go: one should connect and enable optical input and then disable it on the source, pause it using the BluOS controller app or symply disconnect the optical cable from the port. All digital outputs will be off in a moment! No light on Tos, no synchro on coaxial!
So, it's rather a software-related problem or, to say, the issue of the conception of the BluOS. It could be fixed easily!
Why digital outputs are always on, for which purpose?
It's not only an excessive power drain that could be lowered by it but also causes useless running out of lifespan (at least for Toslink LED).
In addition it prevents the connected devices to auto-standby (that was mentioned in the support forum many times). For example, my Marantz PM7000N have an automatic standby function with no signal but if connected to NODE via Toslink it never sleeps too because it sees a synchronization signal on its input. Moreover, it could be powered on automatically if the digital signal appears on the input port, but it can not because the signal from NODE is always here!
On the other hand, for example, my Google ChromeCast Audio connected via optical cable wokes up my Marantz in a second when I send some music on it. And it ceas its optical emission after a few seconds after I stop playback. So, here the concept of "Network Standby" works with a brilliance - the only thing I should do is to start playback or stop it with my phone and the whole my HiFi system will be powered on or sleep down automatically.
Hope you could please to fix it in some further OS update - by default or as an option to sleep digital outputs synchronization signal in "Network Standby'' mode.
Regards
Alex

Hi Alex
Our Quality Assurance team is aware of the issue and looking to resolve it in the long term.

I put my N130 on a Kasa switched outlet. Absent that, I surely would not worry about the "excessive power drain."
