You can use either the digital outputs (optical / coaxial) but if you use the analogue outputs you then benefit from the very good DAC in the NODE and able to playback MQA if that is something you are interested in.

I want to use the Dac on the Node. Do I just go from the Node audio out and plug into audio in on my denon 3700

Yes, analogue out into an input (not phono) on the Denon. Just choose an input that’s not being used.

Can I just use regular RCA cables red and white

That will be fine, you can buy better quality but would suggest you get them from a company who lets you trial at home. Some cables can get you a better sound, some absolutely no difference and others can make it sound worse.

If in the UK one such company is called NVA and they sell the SC (Soundcord) which personally I find to be very good.

    Great! Thanks for the help.

I'm going to use this with roon and tidal MQA

plus I bought some Flac 192kHz 24 bit files off of Qobuz

Nice… personally cannot justify having a Roon server / license - far too many children and counting.

I just use a old Mac mini but i do agree the license is really expensive

Only recently sold off a spare Mac Mini which would have done the job but used the money towards an M1. My Node 0 (cupboard under the stairs) has far too much in it already and Raspberry Pi’s keep replicating.

It’s on my list to purchase… someday. My children mainly use Spotify Connect and my wife uses the Bluesound remote for a few set items to play so it would literally just be me as the user.

Wonder if I can piggyback another question on this thread..? I have the same set up as the OP where the Node 3 is connected to DENON 3700 via RCA Left and Right Audio connections. The follow up connection is the which sound mode of the Denon Amp  should be set to in order to stay true to the source  ..?  The various sound modes are
    1. Various modes of Dolby ATMOS, Dolby DIgital Plus etc  OR
    2. Multi Channel Stereo  OR
    3. Direct or Pure Direct ?

    Thanks

The NODE is 2 Ch stereo so the Direct or Pure Direct modes are the ones to try.

Can I piggy back here? I've just bought node x to stream to my denon avr-x2800h. I've connected with rca cables in aux 1 on the denon. My question is, in the input assign menu, should I use digital or analogue option? I know there's an auto setting, but I don't think that's 100% reliable

If using the stereo outs then configure the Denon to be analogue. If however you use the single coaxial or optical output then it’s digital.
