You can point a metadata editor to the Vaults music share and edit it using a desktop computer, for speed best to use the computer wired. The metadata is stored within each track so has to be read, altered and then rewritten, at which point you can run a rebuild index in the Bluesound app to display the new information.

I successfully use a program called Bliss which works on many platforms, the blogs written by the author are very useful and full of info and tips.

I am sorry but you have misunderstood the post.  The problem is that the metadata has only one field for a name rather than a first name and last name in two distinct fields.  Programmers and application designers were taught to design two fields for names.  This is especially important for searching and sorting of the data.  Modifying the single field of the name using an editor does not solve the problem.   That is why I want to download the metadata, add new fields for breaking of the name field, and then programmatically separately the single field name into two fields.

Having said all that, is there a way to download the metadata so that I can manipulate the data into a different database or data file?

    Thanks

Most but not all metadata editors allow you to export the tags, all of them and not just the ones that the Bluesound app uses. From memory there were add-one for MP3tag to do do this so you could create your own database / spreadsheet externally to whatever music system you use.

Even adding custom tags to your music files will not help as these are not supported, metadata editors will however let you add custom tags directly to your tracks.

Playlist can be helpful as can reading though the old Bliss blogs about “tricky” genres.
