Optical Input Cracking Sound

I bought the Bluesound Node recently and the optical input keeps having static noise.  It has static sound with or without the optical input plugged in.  The power is connected to a power conditioner with the speakers plugged in.  What's happening?

  Interesting. What is the source of the optical input (Chromecast, MQA CD player, SACD player). Would be best to isolate the source of the static.  

  Does streaming from BluOS also crackle? - best to test with Radio Paradise CD

  When the optical input is being played via the NODE, if you connect headphones, do you still hear this crackling? And lastly does this crackling on the opt in still occur when the NODE is taken of the power conditioner and connected directly to a wall outlet
