Bluesound Node 2i Spdif bitdepth when streaming to digital amp

Hi, I'm using my Node 2i as streamer, connected via spdif to a Hypex FA123 digital crossover+amp. As I prefer to use the Node 2i to control volume I was wondering what is format of the spdif stream from the Node 2i. Suppose I'm playing 16bit FLAC, and reducing volume on the Node 2i by 30db, will this result in a loss of detail because the Node 2i squeezes the reduced volume on the original 16bit, or will the internal processing of the Node 2i help packaging the reduced volume in 24bit, so no details are lost? Thanks for your help.

  Hi Jim,

  Yes! Internally processed in a 32bit environment to give you the “room” to adjust the volume with no impact to the sound,

  Thanks Seppi. So do I understand correctly then that while source material in this scenario is 16bit, internal processing is 32bit, and output is 24bit?
