No more sub output Powernode N330 after update?
AnsweredHi all,
I always left the Subwoofer toggle to OFF on the Powernode N330 - reason being that I don't want cross-over but supplementation of the lowest end by manually setting the low-pass frequency on the sub itself.
Now, suddenly, there is 0 subwoofer output from the Powernode N330, unless I turn the subwoofer toggle to ON - forcing me to digitally set the cross-over which I do not want.
Anyone?

I have sent the below email to Bluesound Support:
Dear Bluesound Team,
With the release of BluOS 4.12.11, users are now required to enable the Subwoofer option in order to get any subwoofer output. This change forces a digital crossover setting within the app, effectively disabling the analogue crossover knob on the subwoofer itself.
In practice, this means that low-frequency content is redirected exclusively to the subwoofer, instead of allowing the speakers and subwoofer to share the low-frequency range naturally. The result is a very noticeable separation between the subwoofer and the main speakers.
Previously, leaving the Subwoofer option set to OFF allowed both the speakers and the subwoofer to reproduce low frequencies without a strict digital roll-off, creating a more coherent blend.
I kindly ask you to forward this message to your engineering team so they can consider adjusting this behaviour in a future software update.
Thank you very much.
Regards,

Changes were recently made to how the subwoofer toggle works…

Insane that this change was ever implemented. Not to mention that this change was implemented YEARS after the product has been in home and enjoyed by customers with the original behavior. Imagine uprooting thousands of customers listening experiences overnight with no warning. I’m sure most customers, like myself, have lost a massive amount of trust in blue sound as a company for doing this.

It is truly mind-boggling. Changing the behavior of a product years after its release is completely unacceptable. Imagine your TV receiving a silent update that disables the physical volume buttons on the remote. Now you’re forced to adjust the volume through an app, which also decides how your TV speakers are allowed to sound.

It would be a bit of a different story if there was transparency from BlueSound as to WHY they made this change, or even better, if they would give their customers the OPTION to enable or disable to digital crossover. Oh wait, they DID give customers that option…for YEARS, and just recently took it away. Why?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Please reverse this Bluesound!!

It’s been over a month with no acknowledgment of this issue from Bluesound and no proposed fix. Thousands of customers have had their listening experiences flipped upside down. Why won’t Bluesound show some semblance of transparency and at least acknowledge the mess they’ve created with this update?

Hmm,
here would be the best a switch in the software to let the single user decide how to handle the subwoofer outputt.
But I think the BluOS team will not do such a simple thing.

I’ve sold the N330 for this reasons and bought the NAD3050 only to find out that the NAD3050 has the exact same behavior even though their own manual and support team told me otherwise.
They’ll now adjust the manual accordingly. It’s so strange. Might return the 3050 now although it’d be a pretty great amp otherwise.1
