The crossover is for the speaker outputs, On a Node for the analog outputs.

The sub out is for an active subwoofer.
Crossover frequency and level (or volume) is adjusted on the connected subwoofer.
Sub out will not be filtered at 80Hz (40Hz-200Hz in the latest firmware).

Thanks for responding. I do have an active subwoofer.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that in the latest firmware, the active connected subwoofer will NOT be limited to 80Hz when "subwoofer off" is selected in the Bluos app. The sub out will receive a full spectrum signal or 40Hz-200Hz).

And this will allow me to adjust my subwoofer to a lower crossover point for my towers?

I am saying in the latest firmware you can adjust the crossover for the connected speakers in the range between 40Hz-200Hz. Older firmware was 80Hz (no adjustment possible)

The sub output is always active and "unfiltered".

Bjorn, thank you for helping me understand. That's great news!

I am still using the Powernode Gen 1, but my order for the Powernode 2i will arrive in 2 days. I look forward to seeing the new crossover options listed when I run the setup.

As a new owner of a Powernode 2, I've been trying to get my head around this feature.

Would it be more accurate to describe this Subwoofer On/Off setting as a High-pass Filter On/Off setting? i.e. it only seems to affect the frequencies sent to the main speakers.

As I understand it, the subwoofer output is always active and carries the full frequency range? i.e. I must set the low-pass filter on the subwoofer itself.

    Have I got this correct?

Many thanks & Happy New Year!

I hope you can get a definitive answer on this question. I can say that the literature I have come across and my own experience adjusting the powernode crossover settings and the subwoofer dial (60-160) are as following:

With powernode setting, sub turned on, and set to 60, frequencies below 60 are sent to my sub. If I turn my sub dial all the way up to 160, I am still only getting 60 and below. I believe you only need to set your sub dial to your desired crossover if the sub out on the powernode is turned off. I am assuming then that you will get full frequencies to your mains, and 200hz and below to your sub which you will control with the actual sub dial to your desired frequency. You will have overlap with your mains (if the sub out is turned off on the powernode.

Thanks Bruce. Appreciate your reply. I think that you are suggesting that enabling the Subwoofer mode sets both a High and Low Pass filter.

So, if I enable the Subwoofer mode at 100hz, then the Subwoofer output passes frequencies below 100hz and the main speakers are passed everything above 100hz.

    Many thanks, Treve

You're welcome. I would like to correct one thing I wrote. With the sub off in the app, the sub out delivers all frequencies. Turning on the sub in the app gives you the 40-200 adjustable high/low filter pass.

Thanks Bruce. That's what I would expect to happen. So presumably I could raise / disable the low pass filter on the Subwoofer itself as the bass management is fully handled by the Bluesound Powernode and / or the BluOS app?

Treve, that is correct. You don't want the sub's own crossover settings to potentially interfere when you are managing the bass from the Powernode. Disable, set to LFE, or turn sub frequency dial well past the crossover set point you have chosen in the Powernode crossover settings.

    Cheers Bruce.

I'm looking into replacing my current sub with the Bluesound wireless Sub+

I wonder if the behaviour of the bass management will be the same as with a wired sub?

That is a good question. I am not familiar with their wireless sub. I am sure you will find out...and perhaps post your results to this thread. Happ New Year, Treve

Absolutely! And to your good self Bruce. Can't be any worse than 2020!
