No Sound on Digital Outputs (Coax & Optical)
AnsweredHello,
On my Node 2i, I've encountered certain FLAC files in my library that will play correctly through the Analog outputs but will not play through the Digital Outputs (Coax & Optical). When this happens, I can still hear the bass on my sub woofer but no sound is coming out of the main speakers. When I switch to another song, the sound will come out properly through the Digital Outputs (Coax & Optical).
In summary, I will ALWAYS get outputs through the Analog outputs. However, CERTAIN FLAC files will not output through the Digital Outputs (Coax & Optical). This issue is 100% repeatable on the same files.

Hello Hayden,
If these specific files play correctly over Analog but not on Digital, I believe the issue lies in your external DAC since that would be doing the processing (sounds like the Node can process these files correctly which is why you don't see this issue over Analog).
It doesn't sound quite like a DRM since it can play some of the content (low pass on your bass), but in any case I would recommend reaching out to the manufacturer of your external DAC to see if there are some file limitations.

I did additional testing on the FLAC files. The problem seems to be with some sort of DRM?
1) If I converted these FLAC files to a lossy format, ie. m4a, the files will play through the Digital Outputs (Coax & Optical).
2) If I created an audio CD with these FLAC files, and then rip the CD into new FLAC files, the files will play through the Digital Outputs (Coax & Optical).
I think that this new information should be helpful to resolve the issue.
Thanks,
Hayden

Sam,
Thank you for the reply. That's an interesting point that you made. I will try with other external DACs that I have and report my findings.

I confirmed that the issue followed the external DAC. Thank you for your help.
