Amazon Music HD - Artist Names
AnsweredHi there,
I just set up my Bluesound Node 2i. I am testing it with amazon music HD.
Now, if I click on the service "Amazon Music" I can choose between playlists, new songs, etc.
If do that I will only see a list of songs including their covers. But no artist names are given. Sometimes I can see them by clicking on the three dots right to the song name. I can observe the same behavior when I search for songs.
I understand that amazon seems to have some API limitations, but since the artist name is (sometimes?) displayed when I click on the three dots, I do not believe that API restrictions are the reason for that.
Am I missing something?
Best regards,
Eric

HI Eric
That is the Amazon API based on the fact you searched the Artist, you are getting the results returned by Amazon's servers. The Artist is not displayed because that is what you searched for so is implied.
I hope that helps you understand it better.

Hi Tony,
Thank you for getting back.
I am assuming that I didn't express myself clearly enough.
Let me try to make it more explicit. When I open a pre-defined playlist (from amazon) I will only see the titles, not the artists, unless I click on the three dots to the right side of the screen. That makes the usage very cumbersome. In this scenario I didn't search for anything so there is nothing to imply.
However, I observe the same when I perform a search regardless if I search for an artist or a song title.
Since there is a way to display the artists name, I assume it's a matter of the UI...

Hi Tony,
No need to be sorry.
Given the fact that Artist namens CAN be retrieved (by user interaction) there IS a way to provide that info in a more user friendly manner.I have consumed countless APIs over the years and some are more convenient for programmers than others - I agree. Others put more responsibility on the consumer of that API. But it is the UI - not the API - that creates the user experience. So I highly recommend that you MAKE this a a responsibility of your App if it isn‘t already.
Let me give another example. On Amazon Music I can not store favourites. On Tidal I can. The latter are not synched with my Tidal App. So I assume that your app manages the favourites. If that is true, I don‘t see any reason NOT to manage favourites for Amazon as well. It could be a very convenient feature for your Users, if you have favourites across different services.
Cheers
