How would you connect a powernode 2i (HDMI) with Apple TV?
AnsweredHi everyone.
I need help to connect the above 3 pieces. My objective is to have the most easy setup to control.
My current setup connects the Bluesound to the TV with an optical cable, and then with HDMI to the Apple TV. The problem with this approach is that I can only control the volume from the Blue OS iOS app - not super smart.
I have a feeling the HDMI port on the Powernode could help solve this? But if I connect the TV to the Powernode, where does my Apple TV go?
Looking forward to your help here 😂

The actual setup I have in my home... (and used most when The Raptors or Blue Jays are not playing...)
- Apple TV HDMI to TV HDMI 2 (The Cable Box is in HDMI 1)
- TV HDMI ARC (or HDMI out) to The POWERNODE.
For at least the Apple TV to TV HDMI in, our good friends down the hall at NAD Electronics, strongly encourage you to use HDMI Certified Cables to reduce 4K and DOLBY issues.

Thanks so much for helping out. I hope you don't mind me asking some follow-up questions:
Does CEC work with this?
Can you for example control the volume with the Apple TV Remote?
Can you control the volume with the TV remote?
When you power off the apple TV, does it power-off the TV also?
When you only use the powerNode for streaming, for example spotify connect, does the tv stay turned off?

Yes CEC works great and I control the volume with either TV or Apple Remote. Honestly, though I may have from force of habit performed IR learning as documented here - https://support1.bluesound.com/hc/en-us/articles/206809498
I don't turn off my Apple TV - I just let it sleep - I do turn off the TV.
When I stream, the TV can remain off0 -
Thanks for the feedback! I Will try HDMI setup then

I have followed Tony's instructions and everything seemed fine, but (there's always a but) every time I launch my TV provider app inside the Apple TV there's no sound unless I go to the app settingsand specifically choose to output the audio to the Powernode. If I run any other app (Disney+, Netflix, HBO, you name it) the output sound is by default the TV speakers, but since I have a HDMI Arc cable between the TV and Powernode, the sound output goes through the latter. Any ideas about what may be wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

Can someone provide a link to which optical cable I can plug into Analog/Optical Input 1 or Input 2 on Powernode 2i - is this some sort of special cable because it doesn't look like a typical TOSLINK optical in cable ? I am assuming that this cable will have one end with TOSLINk Optical and the other 3.5 jack ???
Also , with using Optical input on PowerNode 2i , is the digital signal capped at 96 or will it 192 be passed and can you use TV volume to control volume when Optical input on Powernode 2i is being used ?
Sorry, i am confused. Thanks for you help.

There is an optical to 3.5mm adapter included in the packaging to your POWERNODE. An optical connection is not limited at the Bluesound end and will receive and process the full 192, provided the source is sending it out the optical port. Apple TVs will send 192.

When I stream, the TV can remain off
Hi Tony, I'm also considering my options with an Apple TV 4K, powernode n330, and an LG C8. Now that Apple has started streaming in lossless, I'm looking at how I could stream to the powernode as easily as possible. I expect that I can stream from my iphone to the powernode directly, but I'd prefer to stream from an Apple TV which is wired via ethernet. In that case, relying on ARC to route audio to the powernode from the Apple TV would be ideal, especially if I can do this with the C8 in standby mode (ie screen off).
Is this what you meant when you said "When I stream, the TV can remain off"?

You will have to leave the TV on or consider an HDMI Premium Certified splitter box which may introduce additional delay.

I would consider purchasing an HDMI to optical converter if it means I won't have to rely on my TV. Is there one you can recommend that will work well with the Powernode?

Hey Tony, any recommendations on a HDMI splitter that works well with the Powernode?

Can I connect the HDMI output from an Apple TV directly into the HDMI socket on a Powernode to use the Apple TV as an audio-only streaming device?
