Sony WH-10000XM4 compatibility with Bluesound Node 2i
AnsweredHello support team, I have just acquired a pair of SONY WH-1000XM4 Bluetooth headphones.
I was initially going to acquire the previous version, SONY WH-1000XM3 as it is Bluetooth 4.2 and above all supporting the Aptx HD codec.
But the new version, WH-10000XM4, was proposed with a nice discount and since it is now Bluetooth 5.0, I thought it was going to be an even better acquisition to pair with my Bluesound node 2i... but in fact I have just discovered this new version WH-1000XM44 is no longer proposing the Aptx HD codec contrary to its predecessor... which is why I am contacting you.
The WH-1000XM4 is “only” supporting the following codecs: LDAC (which is great but as far as I know, not supported by the Bluesound node 2i, right?), SBC, and AAC.
Therefore, does it mean that the sound quality I will get from that great pair of headphones through the Bluesound node 2i will “only” be via the SBC codec basically, which would be very disappointing obviously ?
Or is there hopefully a kind of upscaling anyway that equals at least Aptx HD sound quality via the Node 2i ?
Thanks a lot for your feedback on this. I can still exchange it with the previous M3 version I guess if better for the sound quality with the Bluesound node 2i (and even if “only” Bluetooth 4.2).

Hi Nicolas
Thanks for contacting Bluesound.
Your Bluesound NODE 2i does not upsample or downsample. Your concerns regarding limited playback with your SONY Headphones would best be addressed by SONY.
Thanks for #LivingHiFi.

Hi, I think the more direction question is - will Bluesound be supporting LDAC, especially on the new NODE and POWERNODE? It would certainly be in line with the desire of these products to lead the market in flexibility. Bluesound appears to avoid picking sides on music streaming formats (FLAC vs MQA for instance), so why not simply support all the mainstream Bluetooth codecs? I enjoy my Node 2i every day and appreciate the class leading Bluetooth antenna design. The only possible improvement would be adding LDAC support.
Thanks,
Michael1
