Node 2i to Formation Duo for TV

Not sure if this is the place to ask but thought I'd try. As outlined by Graham Gilles in a previous post in one of these discussion groups I'm trying to use the Node 2i to connect Formation Duo wireless speakers to my LG OLED TV (bought in 2017) via bluetooth. (The formation Audio Player doesn't work well for this because while it connects to the TV, the volume can be controlled only via the app, not the TV remote. The Node 2i allows for pairing with the remote and a way to synchronize the sound with the picture).

The TV and Node 2i are connected via the optical audio port of each. When I try to make the Bluetooth connection to the speakers, the names of the speakers don't show though three devices come up via a series of letters and numbers. I have no idea if any of the three are the speakers but it doesn't matter because the page doesn't stop rendering, and when I tap on any of the three nothing happens, and then the page times out. Tried it numerous times, same result. I tried re-setting the speakers and Node 2i, same result. I've also tried all the audio-out settings on the TV, no effect. 

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
