Using Vault for movie sound
AnsweredHi, I tried this config:
- Chromecast, plugged into an audio extractor HDMI -> SPDIF / RCA.
- vault 2 receives optical input coming from the audio extractor (from SPDIF output, via toslink/mini-toslink cable).
- vault 2 is connected to a pair of Flex (on wifi). The vault + the two flex are grouped into "vault + stereo pair".
When I cast music to the Chromecast (just for testing purpose), it works perfectly.
When I cast a movie to the Chromecast (from Netflix for instance), the sound seems ok, but there are many tiny interruptions, very annoying.
I guess the input format is not ok for the Vault. Any idea how I could get this to work?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Ed,
If this setup works fine with music cast to the Chromecast, it could potentially be that the audio format of the movie when Chromecast-ed is incompatible with the VAULT+FLEXs group (Dolby perhaps?) or even the Audio Extractor itself.
I would recommend reaching out to Google to confirm what audio format is being sent over when casting a movie (may be dependent on source being cast from, too).

Thank you Sam. Actually, it is a real nightmare to get accurate information on the audio format with all these devices involved... But it is probably Dolby indeed. I will investigate further.
Anyways, which format(s) would be supported by the Vault+Flex?
Thanks again!

PCM Audio would be the way to go
