This morning after reindexing from helpmenu it took about 4 hours, there were a library now showing... but... only 2372 songs, about 11% of total number

I have the same problem. Have worked for years with no problems, first on NAD M50 and later also on Node 2i. Have you made an update that broke things? Support ticket has been submitted.

PS: reindexing take much much longer than before. Afterwards either the Music Library is not seen at all, it just a few percentage of the music is shown. I have checked the health of my NAS and it is fine.

First I hunted "bad tags" but realised that my problem was the folders ONLY containing artwork, once I deleted those and made the index from help menu it was fast and correct. The normal reindex feature will not do the trick

itunes/music does not require separate artwork, but Node 2i prefers that, to show the art work. When you delete/move only songs. you will end up with these folders having only artwork, and that confuses Node 2

Thank you, Palle, for the suggestion. As far as I know there are no folders in my NAS music library that only contains artwork. I have just reset the Node 2i, but it didn't fix the issue. I tried to plug in a USB harddrive which previously have worked fine playing music from. But the Node 2i stops indexing after lea than a third of the songs have been indexed. And then shows NO songs at all.. Beginning to wonder if it is a hardware failure on the Node 2i. Everything else in my setup works perfectly.

"As far as I know..." is part of the problem, because you cannot be sure it is so. Would suggest you look into the file system on your NAS, and open every folder  in "Music".

I run MAC and have a Synology 718+ NAS. I did my checking on the disk on the mac, from which I sync to the NAS, have some 20.000 songs in (possibly) 1200 folders, not too big a job you just skim the pictre on your screen an any folder wit just one file will stand out. once you that situation you instantly see which type of file it is, and if its artwork you delete it.

After that you open your bluos controller and select Help/Diagnostic/rebuild index.

just above this button you can see the number of songs that the controller "know of"
