Why is "decode MQA @ external dac" greyed out with variable output?

Before this current update I think (I don't remember exactly though) that it was possible to select "decode MQA @ external dac". 

Having said that, resolution still changes to 48K X2 with the variable volume output...

  Hi Ed

  Since our addition of an MQA external DAC feature, fixed audio has always a requirement going back almost two years now. This is a requirement of MQA Certification - since your DAC will also include volume control, MQA only allows so much volume manipulation.

  Thanks for the clarification, so then I'd like to know how many folds are done with (decode MQA@ external Dac) on vs. off?

  If external DAC is off and you are using a non-MQA Compliant DAC then you receive a single unfolding of up to 24/96.
