Sound Observation/DAC
AnsweredHi,
Firstly I’m delighted with the the detail and sound of the Blusound 2i. I have now dispensed with my Sonos Connect. I was expecting to dispense with my 2013 Arcan irDac. But after a weekend switching betweena direct link from the bluesound to my refa brio amp and a coaxial link to the old Arcam dac, I’m surprised to find I prefer the old dac. The detail is better revealed. The bluesound seems to have placed layers of ‘stereo’, ‘colour’, ‘processing’ , ‘ candy floss’ on top of the music. If you watched Gran Torino, Eastwoods character leaves the car under the condition no go faster stripes or spoiler is added.
I’ve tried to reduce treble and bass to no effect.
So my question is do you think a 2013 Arcam dac should be more revealing than you 32bit dac?
Thanks and by the way I love the product.
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy
Thanks for the feedback - your diagnosis is the exact opposite. We (along with our good friends down the hall at NAD Electronics) have a reputation for neutral (or as some say 'flat' DACs). We concentrate on reproducing the sound as intended and avoid 'stereo', 'colour', or 'candy floss' as you suggest. That is why the NODE and VAULT give you the option to bypass our onboard DAC and use an external DAC.
Let your ears decide.
