Upgrading Node 2 to Node 2i while using an external DAC

I am wondering if updating from the Node 2 to the Node 2i is making sense for the listening experience, while using an external dac (the same) for both devices?

Or are the notable differences mostly based on the fact when you analogue connect the units?

  Hello Steven, 

  The Node 2 and the Node 2i have mostly the same hardware with regards to audio processing. The main differences between the Node 2 and Node 2i are:

  Two way Bluetooth functionality to connect to Bluetooth headphones 
  Improved Bluetooth codec from aptX to aptX HD
  Support for the 5GHz wireless band
  Support for Apple's Airplay 2

  So if you are using Bluetooth, there will be an improved quality, though otherwise the sound will be mostly the same between the Node 2 and 2i.
