Try removing and reinstalling sub cable also. Don't know if it will fix the issue but worth a shot. Hopefully Bluesound is working on this issue. I know it's very frustrating for you as I was the same way at first

Yup did that before the reboot. Also unplugged the Node 2i as well. In theory, everything should have reset yet I'm still having the issue. Very frustrating!

Hi, I'm also having same issue. Seams like my sub doesn't sense a signal on low volume. I had no issue with this before the update. Please look into it. Would be great if you could control subw out signal level.

    thanks,
    Thomas

I sent back one Powernode 2i to amazon because I thought the sub out was defective with this issue. Now I am sending back my subwoofer as BluSound is claiming there is no way it is there problem. If I get a new subwoofer SVS SB-3000 or other suggested and it is not driving I am going to be frustrated. I might just return everything for good this time.

I want HiFi audio but I cannot dedicate this kind of time to it. For this much money things should work fairly easy. Also noticed music is loading extremely slow on the last update and the Powernode 2i is turning on music by itself sometimes. So Frustrating. on paper this thing looks great.

Same thing. I was listening to one of my favorite song, update, my favorite song again but no more bass. Fortunately, +6 db in bass, volume at 50% and a little bit of bass, my sub still works... For fun, tip above by unplugging sub, rebooting, etc. but no change. I'm an ITer, I can understand that it wasn't your goal, but there is a side effect: the volume of the sub is lower. Dear Bluesound, give us a fix or allow us to rollback because, at the moment, the PowerNode is of no interest for those who have a subwoofer.

Sam R. - What say you? I think we deserve an answer that does not include rebooting our system, unplugging/replugging in anything, adjusting our bass level, toggling "with subwoofer" or "without subwoofer" or adjusting anything on our side. In other words I don't think the costumers own this problem and it needs to be escalated to BluOS/BlueSound support.

Also would it be so hard to allow better controls over our subwoofer like crossover and output levels. People have different size speakers and needs (Hip Hop, Jazz, Rock, Country, Folk, Classical and Cinema).

Sam R: Edit: for all generation Powernodes, the Subwoofer output was dropped to meet DOLBY mix requirements in 3.10.

It seems that dropping the bass output by 15db to meet Dolby mix standards for surround sound from a stereo Hi Res streamer like the Powernode defeats the purpose of Hi Res.

Sam R. - Let me know if it is going to stay this way so I can return my Powernode 2i within the 30 day window. I bought this for HiFi Music not surround sound and if that is going to be the priority then I need something else. I have my gain up all the way and can barely hear anything.

It just seems like if they can have a toggle for "Subwoofer" "No Subwoofer" then they can have a "Surround 5.1" "Stereo 2.1" toggle. Then we can all be happy, of coarse even better would be complete control over crossover and gain.

So bluesound trying to get people to convert powernodes to surround sound! I didn't buy mine for 5.1. I already have surround amp. I want hi Res stereo which is why I bought powernode 2i. Will this change? If not I will have to return it because it's no longer for purpose

Sam-R If this problem is not solved please let me know how you will organize the refund of the Bluesound sub i bought 2 months ago. It worked already at the max. setpoint and additional increase is not possible as you suggest so this sub becomes useless. Look forward to read your reply. I have send you my complaint yesterday under your ref. (#193390).

For those of us awaiting an official response, and hopefully a solution, regarding the weak sub out signal after the latest firmware update, I found that by using a Y adapter to the sub inputs L + R appears to increase the sub volume somewhat.

    Hi Roller OTR

As mentioned, the official response is to tweak your hard controls on your sub to increase about 15db. This was done to meet DOLBY Certification requirements. There are also soft settings in your Audio Settings (in the Player Drawer or under Settings, Player, Audio) to Boost your sub and increase the volume.

That being said everyone's above feedback has been passed along to our Product Management Team for consideration regarding the POWERNODE primary use as a 2 channel amp versus it having the option to be used as an AVR substitute and how we can better manage that as quickly as possible.

    Thanks for your patience.

I will be returning my Powernode 2i by 09/04/20 if there is no resolution to this problem. I just can't wait for a fix that might not ever come. I might return the product anyways, it is incredibly insensitive to your customers to release such an update without a beta test and without community feedback. I have a lot to think about :(

No offense but the market is saturated with AV Receivers, I thought the Powernode 2i was something different for us that wanted HiFi.

None taken...  Our good friends down the hall make some very good ones. We may not hit your self imposed deadline but that would be due to Development Time and/or Quality Assurance testing requirements and not because a solution is not coming in a very near future release.

Antknee Williamson Thank you for taking care. Can we reinstall in the meantime the previous version of the software of the player. Where do we find it?

I 2 have problems with weak subwoofer output since the last update!

I really don't understand why Bluesound would put this in an update without mentioning it, let alone without community input.
The Node/Powernode was designed for Hi-Res STEREO and that is the only main reason people bought/buy it and use it for.
So Bluesound, I was so happy with my Powernode 2 that i decided to buy a second one for bi-amping my speakers and i have 2 subs, each running on one Powernode. Right now with -15db on the subs it sounds like shit, even if i put the gains up on my 2 subs, the input from the subwoofer outputs are way 2 low!

Please have this fixed ASAP, or give us a possibility to downgrade the firmware to a previous version.
Perhaps even bring out 2 firmware versions, 1 for dedicated stereo and 1 if someone likes his powernode in a surround setup or at the subwoofer setup, add a slider for volume adjustment so people can actually choose there own volume level, just like any other AV Amplifier.

And while on it anyway, let us choose a crossover (50,60,70,80hz) for subwoofer output.

Anyway, hope this will be fixed soon, else i will dump both Powernodes and think many people, with attached subs that is, wil consider the same thing.

But congratulations with downgrading your 5 star equipment (what-hifi) STEREO equipment with just 1 firmware update for a Dolby Surround Certificat?

That is some great news and i think we all are glad that this is put to the original output.

    Edit:

I just received the update and indeed subwoofer level is back to normal.

    Thanks for the quick fix!

Please leave the output levels alone in future updates 😜

    Kind Regards,
    Robert

Thanks for the fix. Ironically it came the day after I put 2 and 2 together to finally snoop out if anyone else had this problem after the last update and aired my grievances in the forum. Anyways, thank you for fixing the issue.

I just downloaded the update to fix the weak sub output issue at 10:15 AM EST (US time) and it seems to have resolved the issue. Sub levels are back where they were pre-update last month. Thanks again for the fix.

    Beware of a strange situation!

After updating to 3.10.3, neither the optical input nor Bluetooth input can auto-sense.  Even after manual selection, neither would make any sound.

However, things returned to normal after a reboot.

OMG what a difference an update makes !! Thank you for listening to all of us ! Bass is back and neighbors have started to "complain" again 🥰

I got my first Powernode 2i just in time for the 3.10 update. First thought my 15 year old Linn subwoofer had given up... Decided to open it, then considered sending it for repair, even googled for a new one (thought it might be time for that anyway). Finally I decided to check the Bluesound support and community. And thanks to the community and the latest firmware all is back to normal. Great sound again! thanks :)

Big thanks to Tony W and the Engineering crew for responding to the concern, addressing it, and fixing it in a timely manner.

I've finally been able to listen to several hours of music after the update and I actually had to turn down my sub woofer volume lower than prior to the update, which is even more satisfying. Even though I was one of the fortunate ones to be able to rectify the initial drop in sub output by significantly increasing the volume of my sub (JL Dominion D110) to have the same bass punch, but it always lacked in clarity. So, I can honestly say something in the update didn't only increase output but also clarity as my sub is now back to it's usual deep, clean, fast bass I had prior to the update. Tony - please tell the crew not to mess with the bass settings in future updates! Thanks again for your help with this - have an amazing hifi weekend everyone!

I experienced this problem and ended up sending my B&W DB2D Sub back to B&W for a "repair" as I thought the issue was the sub as I tested it on 3 separate Powernodes 2i's - I only saw this thread after it had been sent back and B&W explained that the unit was working fine / it was too late.

Anyway, I have just had my sub back but I have to say that although the problem has been rectified the output from the LFE channel is still not at the level that it was prior to this issue manifesting itself.

Does anyone else have a slightly diminished output now?

@Bluesound - Please can you confirm that you have you restored this to 100% what it was before?

  • Luc Delaisse

    I confirm: back to 100%

  • leighton.klassen

I can also confirm it is back to 100 % power. In fact, I think it may have actually increased slightly because I have my woofer volume slightly lower than pre (problematic) update. Again, kudos to Bluesound for fixing this quickly.
