What Are You Using And How
AnsweredHi,
I have been Reading this section, but didn't find what others use and structure their Collections so here is how I have done and what troubles I have been found while checking out how BluNode works.
I'm new to BlueNode but have been using JRiver for many years. All my CD's are ripped with Exact Audio Copy to Wav.files and all covers are scanned by myself.. I have figured out that the tags written by JRiver works fine and by that I mean that the only tags I have added is album title, artist title and genre for each album. I have a structure that is alphabetic so artist like Beatles goes in to the Beatles folder ( I have a lot of Beatles CD's) and that folder is in the B folder togheter with other artists begging with B. This system works fine with BlueNode and there is no issue with covers as long as the size is right. I do have half of my collection where the covers are to big and I have tried to downsize the jpg overwrite the tags in JRiver but it seems that JRiver can't rewrite the tags, at least it won't help when tranfering the newly made folder to BlueNode. I hope to find a solution but for now it looks like I have at least to re scan my covers and add them again.
All my albums are stored in an external HDD connected to my router. Problem is to add new albums as it seems like when you disconnect the HDD BlueNode want to reindex your Collection again. That takes very long time, do you have found out a solution for this?
So I wonder what software do you use for ripping and tagging, how have you organized your Collections?

HI Conny
The USB Drive connected to your router creating a Network Share is a great step forward. Once it is connected to the router - then in the App, under Music Library, select Reindex collection which will be a much faster scan.
That being said, why are you still ripping as WAV files? You should be ripping your CDs as 16/44.1 FLAC files for best sonic performance and metadata integration.

Hi Tony,
The wav format is just to be as Close to the CD as possible, but I try to learn about Flack files and levels of compression for the Flack format. The wav story is from a time when no one had a clue what should be an standard in the future. I will consider flac. but Wav is working great in Node, I have trouble with many of my covers and when resize them I still can't get it to work, but I will figure that out. You made me curious abot the sonic performance, are Flac superior to Wav. or do you mean that the Node handles the Flac better to Wav and creates a better sound? Please explain I'm still on a Learning curve, but I can say that I'm here to stay with BlueNode I Think it is a great way and now when I connected my HDD to the router I don't need a computer running, great! I might add that the cost for HDD is no longer an issue.

FLAC files were designed to provide the lossless performance of WAV files but handle metadata such as album artwork and other meta tags. Windows Audio Vectors were always designed as sound effects.
